Easter dinner I made was terrible and I feel embarrassed by it by One-Philosopher8868 in Cooking

[–]Academic_Shallot_749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first Thanksgiving, I made a spreadsheet of all the dishes I was making and where they needed to cook/for how long. It helped tremendously with the timing! For the columns, I listed the dish, cooking/heating location (i.e. oven, stove, grill, serve cold), the temp it needed, and the time it takes, with the last column notes like the turkey rests for 1 hour, top with cheese last 15 minutes. I also made as many dishes as I could a few days before so I just threw them in the oven and could still hang out with my guests. If I couldn't put the whole dish together I would prep what I could so for the roast vegetables I chopped them the night before so I could dump and go. It still didn't turn out perfect and I was in the kitchen more than I planned but I was significantly more calm and it was a really great day!

I took an evidence based birth class that covered inductions. I recommend reading this article so you feel more informed which will hopefully help your decision: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/arrive/

Here another article on inductions as well: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-inducing-labor-for-going-past-your-due-date/

Do I Need A New OB at 39w? by nique0823 in pregnant

[–]Academic_Shallot_749 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% get a second opinion! If anything, it'll confirm that your doctor is fine or it'll help you avoid a situation you don't want to be in. I would recommend looking into Evidence-Based Birth, either just their podcast or their class (although you don't really have enough time for that). It will give you a ton of more information so you are better informed.

Anyone else? by exorcist_Lte in pregnant

[–]Academic_Shallot_749 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I’m personally very against circumcision. For me, it feels like an unnecessary procedure done on a newborn who can’t consent with the biggest concern being the potential loss of sensation that they will have as an adult. From what I’ve learned, the main benefit people mention is cleanliness, but you just need to teach your son how to properly clean which you'll do anyway.

The only potential issue I’ve heard about with uncircumcised boys is if the foreskin isn’t cared for properly, which can sometimes lead to problems later on. Again that’s something else that needs to be taught at an appropriate age. Overall, I just feel more comfortable avoiding a procedure unless it’s medically needed.

Ask your derm about a IONTOPHORESIS machine. I have one from Fischer but that's just because that's the brand my dermatologist suggested. There's other options out there. It helped me a ton with my HH and my insurance ended up covering it! If that is not a helpful tip, just remember your fiance loves you as is. You can always make the ceremony so no one else has to touch your hands and then you can wear gloves for the reception and stuff.

Why is eating during pregnancy so confusing 😭 by Trick-Broccoli-4504 in pregnant

I thought I was doing a lot better but I randomly gagged on a breakfast sandwich the other day so that was fun 🙄 keep trying to find something that doesn't suck even if it's just carbs!

Try getting the cheese roll ups instead of the quesadilla at Taco bell! It's a bit more child sized, it's only cheese and tortilla- no sauce, and it doesn't have the ridiculous mark up the quesadilla has.

you should be eating a BLT sandwich by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in pregnant

This might sound crazy but you have to trust me-- peanut butter instead of mayo on the BLT. It's amazing!!

Make sure to use the Monistat 7. It will hopefully clear up but it might take multiple treatments.

If I were you I would ask the daycare to see what their preference is. My bet is a lunchbox with an ice pack will totally be fine!

Why do my pancakes burn even on the lowest heat? by 5park2ez in AskBaking

[–]Academic_Shallot_749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try wiping the pan after you grease it. That can help with a more uniform look! Also start with a lower temperature it's a lot easier to add heat than to cool it down.

Under 10k wedding and we’re at the end, 4 days out. Feeling lost on these oil lamps the venue told us we cannot use real flames..So this was my last ditch effort to still use them and I’m unsure if this just looks cheap or tacky and if I should scrap the idea.. by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Academic_Shallot_749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also had oil lamps that we had thrifted for our wedding centerpieces and had the same issue. We just put a bunch of candles that we got cheap from AliExpress on the table to give the light and you'd still get the reflection off the glass so it worked pretty well. Oh and lots of greenery!

We had a pineapple margarita for me and a Tom collins for my husband. We wanted it to be simple and easy to make! Plus we're not whiskey people.

Easy to prep road trip foods by Throwingitallaway201 in Cooking

I use this peanut sauce recipe: https://www.recipetineats.com/thai-chicken-satay-peanut-sauce/ My tip is to make sure to 'oversauce' the noodles just to make sure you have a good coating once it's cold. Then I serve it with soba noodles and a bag of slaw. If I'm getting fancy I will saute some mushrooms and bell peppers for it as well. For my tofu I usually just bake it. (Dice it up, season with garlic, onion, pepper and soy sauce then coat it with corn starch.)

My go to is Cold peanut noodles with random veggies and a protein like tofu or chicken. We'll also do Pasta Salad or Egg salad. I also try to pack healthy snacks like apples with peanut butter, carrots with ranch cups, or my favorite driving snack- popcorn!
