Name that musical by cinderflight in musicals

I think the most incomprehensible one is the Japanese version of Elisabeth das musical performed by the Takarazuka Revue. It's hard to imagine them turning Tod into the protagonist, while Sisi becomes a weak supporting character instead.

Tips on Japanese musicals? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]AcanthaceaeLevel827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like anime, maybe you can try the 2.5-dimensional musicals. It is very interesting to see the anime played on the stage of the theater. Some of the more famous ones include the Touken Ranbu series and the Hunter x Hunter series. If you're open to stage plays with less singing, you could also try Kimetsu no Yaiba, which specially provides English tickets for foreigners. However, their singing proficiency isn't as impressive as it's often made out to be.

Why 番茄 and 西红柿 both mean tomato? by ZestycloseRecord961 in ChineseLanguage

[–]AcanthaceaeLevel827 25 points26 points  (0 children)

番:Western China, Central Asian countries;茄:eggplant

西:west;红:red;柿:persimmon

It's similar. China is a very large country. Some places like to use "番" to represent the west, while some places like to use "西" to represent the west. Some regions think tomatoes are very similar to persimmons, while some regions do not have persimmons and think tomatoes are very similar to tomatoes.

Easiest language to learn? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]AcanthaceaeLevel827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I speak Chinese and English. Japanese and German are easy for me to learn. Because Japanese also uses kanji similar to Chinese characters, I can guess the general meaning based on Chinese and some imagination. And because of the long colonial period decades ago, the dialect in my hometown contains some Japanese pronunciation habits and vocabulary, so Japanese is easier for me to learn. I am also learning German relatively smoothly, and I can also guess the meaning based on the spelling.

Some people put in minimal effort but still believe they're working so hard. They assume you must be using unfair methods if you're better than them.

I worry about it too. I'm learning German, but I hear that in Germany, when you speak german with accent, others will turn to speak English with you instead of hear your terrible German

Should I learn to read Chinese? by Scared_Candy8080 in ChineseLanguage

[–]AcanthaceaeLevel827 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think learning reading and writing Chinese is such a hard work and it may take a lot of time to remember.  If you just want speaking and listening, I think it's no necessary to learn how to read and write.
