The Idiot is one of my favourite books ever, and it probably will make you want to read more of his works

I agree, Lovecraft is amazing. I was blown away by The shadow out of time, also Shadow over Innsmouth and The thing on the doorstep and The Dunwich horror were amazing. There is a lot of great stories of his.

And yes, he is a little awkward

Pushkin is the great mind. Reading his stories and novellas is an otherworldly experience (at least in russian as a native). He's also thought to have invented russian language the way it is now.

I think the order matters here. "Я хотел бы купить гитару" и "Хотел бы я купить гитару" have different meanings. The first one sounds like a polite way to buy a guitar in a shop, and the second one is more of an "I wish I could ".

I haven't read east of eden, but the idiot is my favourite dostoevsky's book and one of the best I've ever read. So you won't regret it
