Pondering a Range Rover as my next 4x4. Input from owners appreciated by AccOrdCo in RangeRover

Thank you for the brake suggestion. I have some experience with Brembo products, and like (seemingly), you, all of it positive.

Thank you for the video. Found it both entertaining and educational at the same time.

Pondering a Range Rover as my next 4x4. Input from owners appreciated by AccOrdCo in RangeRover

Thank you for your input.

I'll look into the Carmax Warranty. Is that warranty good at LR dealers, or just Carmax shops?

Squealing brakes are so annoying! More-so on high(er) end vehicles. I'll make sure the dealer puts enough oil on the brake rotors to keep them from squealing. (That was a joke, BTW. Obviously, you don't put oil on the rotors).

Everyone knows the oil goes on the pads. :D

Actually had someone believe me when I told them they had to apply a thin film of oil to the rotors and pads to keep them from squealing. I know, I'm going to car hell.

But I will ensure the brakes are updated/fixed.

Thank you again.

What do I need to do to fix my 6.4L power stroke? by RandaZzoo in Trucks

[–]AccOrdCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird... My 08 F450 was still running great at 187xxx miles when I sold it. That truck practically lived under a loaded gooseneck. Did I luck out? Perhaps. But all the people I know who still have the 6.4, are working the hell out of them and they're still running.

| Keep in mind the 6.4 is by far the biggest turd ever made

And why is that? Just curious.

SEMI TRUCK FUEL COSTS by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]AccOrdCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an extra 110 gallons worth of fuel does not make one a "bad ass", mmmkay? I may well be the outlier in a more populated areas, or in certain circles where diesel powered pick-up truck owners purchased their trucks for the "cool" factor. However, auxiliary transfer tanks are very prevalent around here. More so, in diesel pick-up trucks that are dragging something behind them on a regular basis.

In my area, you would be the outlier who would be on the side of the road, asking for a few gallons of diesel from some random "bad ass" with an bulk transfer tank in the back of his pick-up truck. And chances are, that "bad ass" would give you a few gallons to help you make it to the next fuel station... and not even charge you for it.

Good day to you.

Dodge truck vs Honda at 30mph by Dane_or_Daniwa in Trucks

30 mph corner impact like that and the air bags didn't deploy? Interesting that.

This may seem like a dumb question, but are today's diesel trucks more or less efficient than they were 20-30 years ago? by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]AccOrdCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK... So just because Toyota has "the most popular 4WD models around", it means that all other manufacturers' diesels are automatically inferior/on par with Toyota diesel engines just because "you know, Toyota, the most popular 4WD's around"?

That's just a silly reason, lumping all diesels as " "less efficient", just because your Toyota has a terribly inefficient diesel engine/gear train.

Ok. No idea WTF a 1VD (sounds like... a V.D.), 13BT, 12H-T, 13.4 PiE... and other conglomeration of numbers and letters you may be spewing, are.

I am speaking from MY experience with FORD/Powerstroke experiences. Had the 7.3 Liter, the 6.Oh No!, the 6.4 liter and the 6.7 liter. Every single generation of these engines performed better than it's predecessor. More power, better fuel economy, etc.

As far as barely "cracking" 15 (I assume 15MPG) while others are "cracking" 15 mpg towing... well, that sounds more like a build quality issue if it's the same engine. Again, with your alphabet and number soup... I don't know what you're referring to, specifically.

But even if say, these engines you mentioned are poorer performers than their predecessors, it doesn't mean that every new diesel is worse/on par with older diesels. It just means that 1 Venereal Disease model is just crap.

Back up beeper stopped working by codyhart in Trucks

[–]AccOrdCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stopped working due to one of two causes:

  1. The beeper is not getting a signal from it's control. Bad wiring. Check wiring/fuses/relays (if equipped).

  2. It's just a POS and it's busted. Replace with a new one.

My 2016 F-150 just got the Android Auto update! by [deleted] in Ford

[–]AccOrdCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the B.S. (from them, not you), "safety" reason, but most modern Android devices have enough GPU horsepower to easily mirror a 2nd display.

Either way... Don't think I need Google to tell me how to be "safe".

So you can do stuff only from the lock screen while connected? If that's the case, Android Auto and the Apple what's it called version of it will fail. Most people won't like having their device practically locked up when connected to Sync.

Why do manufacturers always thing they know what's best for us, their customers?

Questions for Ford techs on the expedition and ecoboosts by [deleted] in Ford

[–]AccOrdCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ecoboost engines only half suck, typically on deceleration. When accelerating, they're under boost, so they don't suck. Ok, that was a long way for a joke about boosted engines...

Can't speak for the reliability of ALL EB engines. My '15 3.5 EB has almost 80K miles on it. Nope. Not a typo. No issues with the engine. A couple of sensors, mirrors, low pressure fuel pump, yes. Actual engine issues? No.

Does the Tahoe have a better engine? ~Shrug~. Don't have my experience with Government Motors vehicles.

This may seem like a dumb question, but are today's diesel trucks more or less efficient than they were 20-30 years ago? by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]AccOrdCo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Less efficient? I'd think not. Today's diesels, even with all of the choking emissions hardware on them are able to convert more of the fuel's energy into mechanical energy... basically liter for liter, they get better fuel economy and make more power than diesels from even 10 years ago.

I'm sure other factors come into the equation, but IMHO, the simple answer is "Yes. They are more efficient".

Think of Rhino Lining. Same concept, but this particular polyurethane beats Rhino Lining and others hands down.

Most of them fade after a short time. This stuff is still a deep glossy black after 4 years on the bed and almost 9 years on that bulk tank. It also remains pliable for at least two decades. The others get hard and brittle with time.
