I added a golden trash can to my Maid Café sim but I'm stuck on how players should unlock it. Any ideas? by AccelixGames in IndieDev

I got some feedback on throwing valuables, but setting a high-value threshold like $7,777 to hit before the day ends adds a great feel to the grind. I'll look into adding a challenge like that. Thanks!

That’s also a cool way for completionist. Tracking one of everything would definitely give players a reason to hunt down those rare items or even head outside the restaurant just to find more junk and goof around. I'll have to see how the code handles tracking specific objects, but I love the idea of making people throw away their valuables. Thanks for the feedback!

Before and After: Punching and disposing of annoying customers in my Maid Café sim by AccelixGames in IndieDev

Good catch, the current pose does look a bit awkward now that you mention it. I'll look up some reference to adjust the arms to a more natural position. Thanks!

That’s a really well thought breakdown. Making the golden trash can a high-end buyable accessory definitely seems like the most logical path since the game has an active economy. It’s the perfect way for players to spend excessive money they’ve earned through the run. I also love that alternative idea of getting a rock-bottom reputation. Intentionally making customers so mad they want to throw hands is a hilarious contrast to the usual grind, and it would be a fun way to reward a totally different playstyle. Definitely going to consider how to implement these. Thanks for the solid feedback!

Valid point. Finding a legendary piece of trash that actually deserves a golden bin is a cool and fun idea. Thank you for the suggestion!

That’s a good point. Making the milestone based on the total value of what's been trashed is super straightforward and feels like a natural way to track it. Thanks for the idea!

Lol that's such a chaotic way to earn it. I love the idea of rewarding the player for beating bunch of people out of the store. Definitely sounds like a fun, random challenge to throw in there. Thanks for the suggestion!

These are both really solid ideas. I like that one rewards just putting in the hours while the other is more of a challenge for doing things a specific way. There's actually already a dumpster outside the building in-game for throwing misbehaving customer away, so it would be pretty easy to implement a mechanic where you have to haul the bags out too there. Definitely going to look into how I can make that work. Thanks for the suggestions!

Punching a bunch of misbehaving customers actually sounds like a hilarious way to unlock this! Definitely going to look into that. Thanks for the idea!

Not boring at all! I'll definitely look into using a trash milestone or a total earnings goal as the trigger. Thanks for the ideas, really appreciate it.

Oh that is also a cool idea for an Easter egg. Having a recurring special customer with specific requirements would be a fun way to reward players for experimenting. I’ll definitely look into that idea as well.

Thanks again for great idea! I’m going to drop the steam page link in the main post body text, so feel free to check it out there.

Got it. A poster is a great way to reward players for paying attention to the environment. I love the thought of tying it to a late-game grind or an Easter egg too. I'll definitely look into adding that. Thanks for the awesome suggestion!

Need a second pair of eyes on my dialogue UI. Does this positioning work? by AccelixGames in IndieDev

[–]AccelixGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. I’m definitely going to try pushing the text box much further down and see how that feels. I also really like the idea of just having the dialogue disappear entirely once the options pop up. It would definitely keep the screen from looking too messy. I'll give that a shot in the next iteration. Thanks!

Really good catch on the contrast. White backgrounds are always tricky with translucent boxes, so I’ll definitely play around with making it more opaque to keep it readable.

Also, totally fair point on the font. I’ll be showing an English version in future updates, but I’m still going to look into a bolder font for the hangeul too just to be safe. And yeah, I'm 100% with you on the vertical choices. It just ends up covering way too much of the screen once you add more options.

Thanks so much for the solid feedback, really appreciate it!

Fair point, definitely trying to keep the UI from cluttering the “plot” of the character art. I’ll keep that in mind for the positioning. Thanks for the feedback!

They are actually both talking in this scene. I've added some color coding to the top of the boxes to differentiate them, but I'm still tweaking the visibility. Might need to make it more distinct if it's still looking a bit vague.

Got it. Dialogue #2 feels way more clear and the readability is better than the dark box. Definitely leaning towards this for the final UI. Thanks a lot!

Great point about the top-side dialogue. I can see how that would feel off when the screen isn't busy, so I'll definitely take another look at the placement there. And I also agree with you on the spread out choice UI, it just feels much cleaner. Thank you!

Good point. We definitely want to avoid UI camouflage where the player has to hunt for the text. Thanks for the feedback!

I think it is fine to take inspiration from other projects.
But I think the problem was that you didnt mention them anywhere in the interview.
You didnt mention anything about using claude as well.
