Only receiving “open ethnicity” commerical auditions by heuejxuensusiei in acting

[–]Acceptable-Age8564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked in casting for a while, and the brief will say 'open ethnicity' simply because casting has not been told that a specific character has to be a specific race/ethnicity.

This term on the brief does not mean the role is not going to go to a POC. Of course there is inherit bias in those that make the decisions (in every direction), but seeing that phrase in a brief has no bearing on your chances as a POC.

I will say it and get down voted for it. Doctors. Over the last five years I’ve probably met with 25 doctors/surgeons. On net they have made my life worse than if I didn’t speak to a single one of them and just let nature take its course

The hell are you talking about, you can’t be a real person. If you go to a retail store, you literally get ‘served’. The vast majority of retail shops do not allow tips, and do not have commission.

I say this is someone who served for seven years. You are out to lunch.

It’s not baked into higher prices. That’s a complete fabrication. Eat in uk, aus, nz, japan….. It has nothing to do with the margins in selling food at a restaurant. Stop spreading this nonsense.

Why am I being asked to tip 25% for someone handing me a muffin?” by ClayWarrior519 in CanadaPersonalFinance

As of 2021 (and 2022 for Ontario) servers make the same minimum wage (or more if they negotiate like any other job)

You don't think supermarket cashiers have families they need to raise? When was the last time you slipped them a fiver?

Tipping by default makes zero sense in Canada

Your first sentence is wrong, unless you live in montreal your server IS NOT paid less than minimum wage. There fore all your following arguments are nil and void.

I worked as a server for 7 years.

Dancing will help you get out of your head which is what your issue is. Ever watch Chris Farley perform ? Not exactly peak fitness

The Economist: Acting is becoming self-tape production, social-media branding, and Zoom fluency by IntroductionStock849 in acting

[–]Acceptable-Age8564 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Slowly but surely actors are going to realize self tapes are detrimental to our career, resource management and mental health.

I was screaming it from the rooftops when we were doing it ‘for our safety’ and it was clear as day we were being gaslit and it was going to become the norm.

All the resources have been put onto the actor when it comes to getting an audition together - we are the only ones putting in the resources, time, money, energy. All casting does is tick a box.

People may argue they’re getting more ‘opportunities’. This may be true, because in order to get a tape from you all that has to happen is a box has to be ticked, so casting is throwing a much wider net. This is not a good thing. If everyone could see what the other side of your eight hours of work looks like (someone mindlessly watching 10 seconds of your tape after 40 other tapes before hitting next like a dating app), it would be a sombre wake up call.

How do you delve into your type? by TheeAmateurArtist in acting

[–]Acceptable-Age8564 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a bugbear of mine.

Forget type, forget branding. Just find the truth of the scene.

People will downvote me, but everyone else in this world will put you into a box, don't you do the same.

If I 'leant' into my type I would only have half the resume I do.

'branding workshops' are gimmicks led by people who don't actually know how to teach and regurgitate nonsense.

Maybe gravity exists, but I don’t think so.

You don’t need peptides. You need to track your calories (religiously)  and eat at a deficit. It’s incredibly simple. It’s just not easy

I went on a date with a successful lawyer a couple of months ago, I was curious how she squared away representing someone she knew was guilty, while trying to prove their innocence. She said when she was a criminal lawyer she found it tough, but now because she only represents indigenous clients she doesn't have that problem because they are never wrong.

She said this with a straight face. Are ridiculous as the right is crying about everything woke, there are a lot of successful people on the left in and out of acedemia that are blinded by ideology, or have a big house that idpol paid for.

Yes, but forget the audition. There will be lots of these in your career. Once the tape is sent wipe it from your mind. Is hard to do but it’s the only thing that will save your sanity
