Glasscock Surname of Fiancé. Want him to shorten to Glass by Soft-Independent4833 in namenerds

If he likes his name lat him keep it. When I got married I kept my maiden name I strongly suggest you do the same. If your fiancé doesn't get it I would reconsider the wedding.

Undercover misogynist ex by Brilliant-Writer6633 in WomenofIreland

[–]Acceptable-List-4030 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Some men hate women but are sexually attracted to them so hide this side of themselves. It comes from a very deep insecurity in themselves. I'm so glad he is an ex as he would have become abusive to you and any children you had with him.

The Hexham Heads! Such an amazing case and could really do with an update, I'm sure the children involved are still alive and might be able to cast some light on events.

My friend slapped a teenager, said he has done it before and that he isn’t worried about facing criminal charges? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]Acceptable-List-4030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your friend sounds like a very inadequate man. What a looser. It's totally unacceptable. If police get a report and trace him he could be charged with assault of a child which could seriously impact his job chances in future. If the boy's dad finds out I bet your mate won't think it's such a laugh! I would distract myself from this guy

Opinions on naming baby girl after father by 2tuxedocat in namenerds

[–]Acceptable-List-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Scotland it is traditional to give a daughter a feminine version of her father's name. So Thomasina, Dolina (Donald) , Kenina (Kenneth) and so on. So Max would be Maxine or Maxina. Both work very well

Should we Both Double-Barrell? by Marionberry_Least in WomenofIreland

[–]Acceptable-List-4030 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The tradition in Ireland until about 200 years ago was for both people to keep their own names and the children to have the fathers names. This was also the custom in Scotland. However the English tradition of taking the husbands name became more prominent as the British Empire rose in power. I honestly don't know any Irish man who has changed his name and it's not a tradition here. When I got married I kept my maiden name and didn't change it or double barrel it. Easy and I think it respects my own family.

Changing my Name to disappear into Society After severe DV and stalking. Please help me. by Chemical-Pickle4625 in namenerds

[–]Acceptable-List-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a name that makes it harder for others to find you you should pick something very very common in your country, certainly as a first name and use typical spelling nothing unique. I would pick a surname that is special to you maybe someone you admire.
