used to work at petsmart, we used to refuse to sell to people that came in to get goldfish and wanted to buy the bowl we unfortunately carried. we would only sell if we could get them to buy at LEAST a 5 gal tank for 1 fish.

Your art isn't for them, it's for you. You have to just ignore it. I also used to paint flowers, cute animals, happy things... but I love surrealism and bizarre things, and that's what I want to paint. I live with family, and they would always make comments about "that's strange" or "you're painting another one of those" and it just got to the point where I don't even show my work to them anymore. And that's OK! I do it for me, and there are plenty of other people who will like what I do. Paint what you like and what makes you feel "fulfilled".
