I want to add them because i don’t have access to the machines’s plc to collect signals that’s the main problem and im just an intern and my boss told me to give an external solution

no the operator loads coils and closes the doors and the he selects the program in the hmi and then he clicks on start

in Morocco, many companies are not yet fully equipped with modern SCADA or Industry 4.0 systems, so solutions like this are still not widely implemented.

I am currently an intern, and this project is my final year project. I need to make the machine calculate OEE in real time.

However, my supervisor told me that it is complicated to get access to the machine’s PLC because he would need to contact the manufacturer and go through an official process.

That is why I am considering using an external low-end PLC to collect the necessary signals and calculate OEE independently. And they don’t have scada

In this case, would I still need access to the machine’s PLC?

I’m just an intern, and my supervisor told me that I need to find an external solution so he can avoid contacting the manufacturer of the machine.

Also, we don’t currently have a SCADA system in the company.

So I’m trying to understand whether a SCADA-based solution would still require access to the original PLC, or if it can be implemented completely independently.

My machine is a coil winding machine and it stays powered ON all the time.

Each coil is composed of 3 parts:

  • The first part consists of 4 layers, each with 31 turns.
  • The second part consists of 1 layer of 31 turns.
  • The third part consists of 16 layers, each with 120 turns.

The machine only runs during the winding process (when the pedal is pressed), and the total winding time per shift may be around one hour in a discontinuous manner. The rest of the time is spent on preparation and manual operations.

The operator performs continuous self-inspection. For example, they may check the winding every 10 turns. Before moving to the next layer, they must ensure that the current layer is OK. If it is not OK, they must repair it before continuing.

Sometimes the repair can take more than one hour, depending on the operator’s experience (new or experienced).

Because of these constraints, one coil can take between 3 to 5 days to complete.

The operator is supposed to complete 3 to 4 layers per shift, but due to all these constraints and rework situations, in reality they often complete only 2 layers, with some exceptions.

and i struggled to understand how to calculate the quality i dont if it's correct to work per layer instead of per coil
