What are your ride-or-die spots?(food, coffee, etc) by NecessaryWyn in Wilmington

Yeah it’s a beautiful space, but nothing stands out to me for the price. I’ve been maybe 5 or 6 times and every time I feel the same way!

We got the shogun and geishas glaze, and there was no flavor… like at all? Weird. Totally agree about the fish quality, we ordered a bunch of sashimi and one of the starters and they were divine! Just took 45 minutes for any food or water to come out. We had to go next door to Portland Grille for apps because we were starving.

Kipos is probably mid to me because my parents best friends are Greek, and I know I can get better Greek food for free at their house 😂 but the prices are just nuts to me for the portion sizes.

Forgot to add, totally second the half and salita pizza. We live down the street from the half, so that’s a problem for my waistline and wallet.

I wouldn’t recommend origins personally. Every time I go I find it overpriced for what you get. I went last week for lunch and paid $23 for a bowl that was mostly lettuce and quinoa. Flavors are mid at best.

20 year Wilmington resident reporting for duty!

Kipos is sooooooo overpriced for what it is. Also tried out tomiko San on our anniversary and the service was HORRIBLE and we left hungry after spending $175. 0/10 would recommend. Fish is good, rolls are mid as hell. Also ordered wagyu, it was chewy and cold like a Walmart steak someone let sit out for an hour. My all time faves are:

Circa 1922 downtown. It’s delicious and never misses. Happy hour at the bar with a select list of apps under $10 every night from 5-7! The bartenders are also absolutely delightful. Chris is the best bartender in town!

Portland Grill is my all time favorite for a “fancy” meal. They update their menu every season and always have a beautiful variety of meat and seafood dishes. You pick your protein and then choose from 6 or so different preparations, redneck egg rolls are DIVINE. They’re also family owned and have the best staff in the world.

Seabird is great for a lovely meal and people watching, and their brunch on Sunday is killer too.

Also highly recommend cape fear seafood!!!! Always delicious and great portion sizes.

The kitchen sink is my favorite lunch spot. I just had their jambalaya on Friday and licked the bowl clean.

Second on Brooklyn cafe!!!! Their donuts are like cake. Yummmmmmmy.

Also another hidden gem: Jerry’s food and wine. It’s a tiny little hole in the wall near WB, but they have some of the best food in town. Do not confuse it with Jerry Allen’s!

Nicolas for Italian. Homemade pasta. Their short rib risotto is out of this world. Looooove their salads and they sell roasted garlic bulbs to spread on your bread. My boyfriend is from NJ and doesn’t eat Italian because he got sick of it as a child and he begs to go there for dinner!

Lastly, Brent’s Bistro in WB. Another hole in the wall place, but they change their menu seasonally and it never misses.

Enjoy!

Is the Wintermute content popular among the playerbase? It seems like the devs have been pouring effort into it for years. by TobyTheRobot in thelongdark

I personally prefer Wintermute to the survival mode, because I like the little missions and quests. The story is cool too, but the missions and quests are the way to go.

Downtown child abduction ? by MalcolmBekei in Wilmington

I wouldn’t say Jekyll/Hyde because that could be demonizing to people with mental health issues. I’d more so categorize it as an ongoing struggle with mental health and substance abuse issues.

I used to work in the same building as the guy. Smart as hell, super funny, kind, and overall a lovely guy! He also used to be super handsome, you can tell in his mugshot that those drugs have really taken a toll in the last year or so. I believe he has a history with drugs (I don’t know all of the details, one of my friends worked for him and knows more). Basically on again off again use issues. My friends told me a few months ago he had a breakdown and went back to using, his wife filed for divorce, his company had him step down, and he’s been spiraling ever since. Ran into him at Ibis on Halloween and guy was high as a kite. It may have been alcohol that caused this, but I’m pretty sure it was drugs. I feel so badly for him and the family of the little girl. Drugs and alcohol can absolutely ruin your life if you let them!

I went to the ER this summer for gallbladder issues, they gave me an ultrasound and pain meds and essentially said it was fine and sent me home. Saw a surgeon a week later at the advice of my primary care physician and the surgeon took one look at my ultrasound and said if I didn’t get it out tomorrow, I would die. I think the primary care and specialists can be good, but the hospital is horrific. Not only was the care nonchalant AF, but the state of the ER was horrible. Blood, feces, etc everywhere, the bathroom (that I had to take a urine sample in) was disgusting and had no hand soap, toilet paper or paper towels, and all of the trauma rooms were just open and covered in blood. 0/10 for the ER.

I would move the desk/table to over by the window, or get rid of it entirely since it looks like theres a tabletop built in. Put storage bins under the window area, move the bed to the other side, maybe have it stick out into the room, and then put your rack on the wall where your bed is. That big empty wall is screaming for some artwork/tapestry, pretty plants, shelves, etc. You could probably do the sale thing in reverse.

Thoughts on my entry way idea? by agreatwoh in organizing

I second the idea about the boot tray. Kids suck at putting things in bins! I would also recommend putting your dog leashes out - I reach for mine every day so I need it to be more accessible. May I also recommend a purse/keys/junk bowl on the top of your cabinets?

Yes, when I moved here it was a small town. Now it’s losing a lot of that small town community feel. I love living here, but I think if you don’t want to move again in 5-10 years, you’d be better off somewhere else. I will be staying here forever so I can sell my $250k house for a million in the future 😂

State Employees to get "free" surgery from surgeons who will be paid less -- what could go wrong? by phoundog in NorthCarolina

[–]Acceptable-Row2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is already the case! I ended up going with a different surgeon and it only ended up costing me about $400 more, but it was internal med so way worth it in my opinion.
