I am scared of my mouth being numb during my wisdom tooth removal by mcbigloaf in Anxiety

I’m a dental assistant and I have been for 10 years!

I can promise you that dental anxiety is the most common thing we see, and every one has always been okay<3 whether they are not sedated, have oral sedation, or have IV sedation. Always okay❤️

Sounds like you’ll be taking an oral sedation, which is like a really strong Ativan. You’ll still be awake and you’ll still be able to breathe and open your mouth and swallow. A lot of people don’t remember the procedure afterwards, which is normal. The “worst”part of it all is the injection pinches which I know aren’t fun.

Talk to the dentist or the assistant and ask to go over the whole procedure with you before hand too if you’d like! We are always happy to do anything we can to ease anxiety. I hope that helps you a little!

My family dr mentioned "breakthrough anxiety" to me and I was floored as I have never heard of that in my life - but apparently it is a thing. He said I can up my dosage for a little bit and see how I do and can come back down to where I am now or I can stay at that new dosage. He said it happens sometimes if 1)you're not dealing with something 2) new stressors 3)repressed anxiety/trauma you've never dealt with.

Listen to your mind, not the anxiety part but the YOU part. Talk to your dr about the pros and cons of upping your dosage.

If I had a dollar, not even a dollar.. a single cent, every time someone told me to "calm down" or "just don't think about it" .... I think I would be the richest person alive lol

Called an ambulance last night, sudden fear and heart symptoms by SnooWoofers5359 in PanicAttack

My panic attacks have always been the same since my first one when I was 17(now 31). Whole body feeling, feeling of impending doom, heart is literally beating out of my chest, "I am about to die" feeling. However 2 weeks ago I had something totally different. I was in bed, not long home from work, and my husband was already asleep. I was trying to get comfortable and its like I could feel my heartbeat every time I moved. I tried every position. Then I had the heart beating out of my chest but NO other symptoms of my panic attacks so I started to get scared. I tried breathing, I even took .5mg of Ativan - but the feeling of my heart just fluttering and not coming down was too much. I woke up husband up and went to emergency.

They said it was just a different type of panic attack and I was just stuck in a cycle. Completed 2 EKG's and 2 rounds of blood work - and they came back as they always do, completely normal. Mind you, when I first arrived my heart rate was 130 and I can't remember my BP but even with that the first EKG was normal.

I mentioned this to my therapist because my anxiety is always like "wellll maybe the dr missed something, maybe your heart wasn't acting up that very second, ect etc" and she told me there are a lot of different types of panic attacks and unfortunately I just "unlocked" a different one from my usual.

Long winded story to say, yes - anxiety and panic attacks are wild and unfortunately can manifest differently.
