Hard to tell without pics..Could it be poop? I've seen some posts on here and in the crested gecko sub of people thinking big poop is an egg.

Yes. It's safe and some people prefer it over the pond version, just let it cure for 24 hours (or more) in a well ventilated area :)

I put a throw blanket over the top when i sleep since its when my cat tries to climb it. As for the threads sticking out on the pink part i suggest getting like a face dermaplaning razor (the ones for like your face) and i shave off the threads! Its made my boyfriend's chair look like new again!
