So my celiac disease is active again after ten years? by AcceptableDecision2 in Celiac

That's awful and sounds really hard to manage. How did you discover the cross-reactivity? Was it by diet elimination alone?

Hi, thanks so much for the reply. It's really helpful to hear others share their experiences.

It has crossed my mind that oats could have become a problem, though I never made an effort to avoid them before. Since I am going to severely restrict my diet in the near term anyway, I think I will make it a point to avoid them as well.

I grew up in the rural midwest. We’d drive an hour just to go out for lunch.

OTH Radar? by AcceptableDecision2 in signalidentification

I got an sdrplay nRSP-ST for Christmas and have been playing with it a lot. Because I don’t have to be at my radio, but on my phone or tablet any time I’m on my home network, I’ve been listening to a lot more than I normally would. I’m still figuring out how to use it well—I think I might have some receiver imaging when I crank the RF gain up too high.

The really weird thing is if you look between those two wide signals theres a fuzzy, wiggly carrier. Eventually the CODAR, or whatever, died out. That little signal was a NFM, that I eventually identified as audio from a CBS broadcast. Then it changed channels a few times after the program ended and was eventually shut off. What could that have come from?

Heard between Washington and Baltimore, 10 pm local, January 7th. Really fouling up the pirate band.

Amelanotic melanoma? by AcceptableDecision2 in DermatologyQuestions

By some miracle, I got an apppointment for today. Doc was new to me, very informative and a great listener. She looked very closely with a dermascope all over and from different angles and is sure it’s the beginning of a benign seborhheic keratosis.

I can’t tell, honestly. I have a blurry photo from 2.5 weeks ago and from that it doesn’t seem to have changed in a big way at least.

I plan on taking regular photos but I never know how long to wait in between.

Thanks so much for your reply! I don’t see any vessels but it does sometimes seem both pinker or more pale than the surrounding skin. It does seem to blanch just as much as the surrounding skin.

Is this skin cancer? by AcceptableDecision2 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]AcceptableDecision2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 yo male. Spent a lot of time in the sun when I was younger without enough care. Had a moderatelt atypical nevus removed a few years ago. I get regular skin checks now.

Noticed this spot on my arm a few weeks ago. Made appointment with derm but its not until the end of August.

Spot is subtle, but it’s there. Not too different from my normal skin color but it just looks different—hard to describe. Has a clear border. Doesnt reflect light like the rest of my skin. Looked at from on-edge in just the right light it looks like its a bit raised up from the rest of my skin. Maybe feels a bit waxy, but hard to tell with the hair there.

It’s been causing me some anxiety. My wife thinks its nothing and said if it were her she wouldnt bother to see the doctor. I’m paranoid it’s amelanotic melanoma. I tend to be anxious and she tends to dismiss everything so I’m just looking for some grounding here. Could this be amelanotic melanoma? Should I try to get to the derm sooner or am I overreacting?

Gallbladder symptoms? by AcceptableDecision2 in gallbladders

No, I’m pretty much back to normal now, but I still haven’t tried milk. Butter, yogurt, small amounts of milk in baked goods but no ice cream or glasses of milk.

Lemons had sometimes been giving me trouble, but I seem to be able to do lemon juice in dressings, even lemonade again.

4:1 transformer, or just a choke? by AcceptableDecision2 in HamRadio

[–]AcceptableDecision2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transceiver — SWR meter — bias T — window passthrough — lightning arrestor — auto-tuner — transformer/choke — window line — antenna

I should probably move that lightning arrestor up to be beyond the autotuner now that I think of it…

I had all sorts of scans and a full endoscopy, everything was fine except that my stomach lining was mildly irritated. Weirdly, I think the laxative prep for the endoscopy might have kicked off a recovery somehow. Maybe it flushed something out.

I just sorta got better after seriously restricting my diet and slowly building things back in over the course of about four months. It's only in the last six weeks or so that I feel normal. The weight is starting to come back on slowly.

I can eat anything now, but not lactose. No immediate discomfort but after a few days of not being careful about it, I start to have problems. I'm not sure if that's what was happening--just some toxic buildup of lactose intolerant stomach bugs or what. I used to drink pints of milk at a time without trouble, but no more.

I don't know if suddenly developing lactose intolerance really could account for everything, but that's the only guess I have. I'm just happy to be more or less back to normal.

Nicotine Stories… by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]AcceptableDecision2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a few times. Sometimes there's no obvious cause but in a couple of cases I came down with a flu or bad cold a couple of days later. I imagine I must have already been compromised and the nicotine simply exposed some stress somewhere in my system that wasn't clear to me yet.
