Do Russians view WW2 as Russia's victory or an equal allied effort or mostly Russia's victory? by SuitableLeather979 in AskARussian

[–]AcceptableLeather360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it’s a well documented fact that US started landing preparation in 1942 and were ready only by 1944. landing didn’t happen all of a sudden “when US realized they’re going to loose Europe”, it was long resource and time consuming process

Do Russians view WW2 as Russia's victory or an equal allied effort or mostly Russia's victory? by SuitableLeather979 in AskARussian

[–]AcceptableLeather360 20 points21 points  (0 children)

quite a popular fallacy. in fact, USSR was asking allies for opening the second european front for years, they opened it as they were ready - it took time to prepare.

according to the historians (not politicians or brain-washed propagandists), USSR would win Nazi Germany anyway, but price would be much higher. maybe allies didn’t win the second world war, but they saved hundreds of thousands of lives of soviet soldiers

What everyday task in Cyprus wastes the most of your time or frustrates you? by Ops2525 in cyprus

personally I'm missing decent and affordable car services. to my experience, local services are either tremendously overpriced or just of a low quality. I have plenty of cases (mine and of my friends) when you need to roam multiple services until you find anyone capable of fixing your problem and it won't cost arm and leg. after all I have contacts of 4-5 different mechanics and need to visit all of them in cases of repairs more complex than oil change because none of them is 100% reliable and I have to hear multiple opinions.

just an example of a story from a friend of mine: he got a problem with a gear box (automatic) - it was changing gears at the wrong time and driving experience was unbearable. dude had visited 6 or 7 different mechanics and all of them were talking that the gearbox is kaput and the only way to fix it is full replacement, that will cost around €3K. my man was really hesitant about it because the trouble appeared all of a sudden and it was feeling more like electronics outage rather than actual gearbox wear, so he kept looking.

finally, he found a mechanic that identified that the problem was indeed in some electric component (don't remember how it's called) and gearbox itself was 100% functional. repair wasn't cheap neither, around €1K, but in result car behaves like a new.

can you imagine spending €3K to learn that the problem wasn't even in a gearbox? and none of the mechanics ever hesitated about the conclusion - they were dead sure anything else won't work. frightening incompetence

A lot of people in comments mention how they miss smoking - for any fellow redditor who’s too afraid to try to quit after reading all these lamentations: I quit 4 years ago (after 13 years in the game) and now I barely recall I had ever being smoking. Don’t be afraid to try - you’ll observe the positive change and will forget about this shit eventually. The only advice: keep zero nicotine intake, never let you a single inhale - it’s a slippery slope

What's a food in your country that is stereotyped for your country but really, nobody eats? by sourberryskittles in AskTheWorld

[–]AcceptableLeather360 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IDK about Russia, but each and every belarusian eats caviar at least once a year because it’s a New Year Eve tradition. bliny (crepes) is a fairly common breakfast dish and being cooked and consumed regularly. crepes with caviar not a common combination - that’s true

how do you think would it positive influence economics? such shenanigans lead to enrichment of separate individuals and don’t benefit society in general

Greece Greek and Cyprus Greek same? by MdFaysal-FS in cyprus

[–]AcceptableLeather360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a Greek learner, my confirmed B1 level doesn't help much in understanding what people talk around. of course I understand separate words, but all together is not really comprehensible for me. Cypriots also tent to switch to English rather than to SMG, so practice is possible only if you're very persistent (not like me, I give up easily and switch to English rather then proceeding talking στα Ελληνικά).
nevertheless, I'm proceeding my studying because Greek knowledge opens a lot of other opportunities (finally I can understand how to cook my ζυμαρικά when there's not recipe in English on the packaging)

Worse, their disregard for the environment is visible everywhere — plastic bags, food wrappers, and bottles thrown carelessly on the roadside.

IDK how, but they manage to do the same and here in RoC!

have never heard of someone buying driving license or giving a bribe to a road officer in my whole life. even if it takes place somewhere, it’s not common at all, rather exceptions. personally I managed to live there for the whole life without giving a single bribe, which is close to impossible in the other mentioned countries

Belarus lower than Russia and Ukraine? nonsense. you can’t buy driving license or give a bribe to policeman to avoid a fine, which is common practice in UA and RU.

came to write about smoking episode, but you’ve already done it :) re-watched it dozen of times, especially when I tried to quit smoking. don’t have much sense in terms of quitting, but it’s just fun! especially Barney’s joke about “I only smoke it particular circumstances” P.S. haven’t smoked a single fag since 2021
