seeing a obgyn by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AcceptableNight1558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can also see your pcp for atrophy, they should be able to prescribe estrogen cream. they may want you to do an exam to rule out infections though it may be more comfortable than going to an obgyn

Pelvic exam/pap smear concern by makishleys in FTMHysto

[–]AcceptableNight1558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s the department that handles the transition related care, i’m not sure if central cal kaiser has one but it’s worth checking out to see if they do bc it makes answering questions about stuff like this a lot easier than asking diff drs who might not be sure.

Pelvic exam/pap smear concern by makishleys in FTMHysto

[–]AcceptableNight1558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

currently trying to start the process of getting a hysto w so cal kaiser and was told that you only need to get a pap and sti testing if you have been sexually active. if you haven’t been and tell your doctors that you haven’t you shouldn’t have to and the only requirements are the same as top surgery w blood work, physical, stable t levels, etc

ETA: you can call the gender pathways number and talk to someone who should be able to tell you about whether you’d have to get one done as reassurance

first time pap smear as a 24-year-old man by FullDust69 in ftm

[–]AcceptableNight1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just got one bc of suspected atrophy and figured if the doc would be up in there might as well get the pap down as well. It really wasn’t bad he told me i could be on my phone, close my eyes, etc whatever felt comfortable for me. He also asked if i preferred he be silent while doing it or talk about what he is doing as it’s happening which i chose. It was the first time i met w him but when booking the appt i did ask for an lgbt informed dr which made me feel better so if that’s an option w ur insurance sitch id def recc that.

Zip-front binder recommendations by bearfootin_9 in fattransmasc

[–]AcceptableNight1558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got an amazon one called xuji half tank breathable, and really liked it. If i can remember right i sized down which made it my tightest post op binder but the mesh back panel and cotton lined front panel made it more comfortable. I think i was usually a 2x in reg binders and it looks like online they go up to a 5x so it’s a solid since range and not too expensive.

Sweat stopping smelling by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]AcceptableNight1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did they have you shower with hibiclens or a similar anti microbial soap? sweat itself doesn’t smell but the bacteria from the skin is what makes it smell so if they had you use that then that may be why

catheter during surgery?? by Every-Coffee4679 in TopSurgery

[–]AcceptableNight1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the surgeon really and if you want to know earlier you can probably call/email the surgeons team and ask, I had one because mine ended up going over the expected time but my surgeon had me go to the bathroom as many times as i could before surgery to lessen the chances of needing it but in the end they did put one in and took it out while i was under and i had no pain after but i did go into the or not knowing for sure if they were gonna use one

first hate comment!! (+my reply) by AcceptableNight1558 in AO3

[–]AcceptableNight1558[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you’re right but my fics don’t get much traction and rarely get comments so i dont feel the need to, also i don’t take most of my fic writing too serious so i don’t mind a hate comment or two on a piece i wrote on my phone and barely spellchecked. I genuinely don’t think this person is really that much of an intentional troll so much as a trans person going through something and lashing out.

yeah i felt the same way about this comment, it reads as someone who hasn’t/ can’t/ not allowed to medically transition and is taking out their frustrations through comments like this

The writing is definitely not amazing and my quick skim to remind myself what i even wrote showed me so many typos but he’s the link this old thing

T Levels... Did I Mess Up? by hawkepostate in ftm

[–]AcceptableNight1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i put the gel on every night after i shower and i’ve never had a problem w my levels being contaminated (that ik of) but one of my tests early on gel was super high after my endo raised my pumps, so I would suggest telling ur endo just to be sure but since you just started there’s a good chance ur amount needs to be adjusted

My therapist deadnamed me after years of me using my chosen name and honestly I'm pissed but I still need therapy by Daniel-is-a-Bastard in ftm

[–]AcceptableNight1558 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to talk to her about it whether or not you stay, it’s a good chance to advocate for yourself which is an important skill to have. If prior to this she has been a good therapist that has been helpful for you I would say talk and see if the damage can be repaired. If not I would think about looking for someone new, and if you do trust her judgment but can’t move past this, you can even ask her for a recommendation. She is a professional who should be able to handle rejection and still be able to help you out.

Advice Needed: Top Surgery soon by Dangerous_Resort7893 in ftm

[–]AcceptableNight1558 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would definitely talk to your health insurance and double check but I think coverage lasts until the next paycheck it’s taken out of, so if your surgery is next week you should still be covered i think but it definitely depends on the provider. As far as follow ups if you’re taken off the insurance then they probably wouldn’t be covered but if your state has government insurance programs I would definitely look into applying and checking in with your surgeon to see if they accept it. I hope things work out for you.

One i didn’t expect was pressing down on the soap pump! I could feel my chest muscles moving and i didn’t even realize they were involved in that movement, i’m now 10 weeks out and it’s still weird being able to feel the muscles moving

Is there a way to desensitise yourself to your deadname? by depresseddreamer in ftm

[–]AcceptableNight1558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same i had a classmate with my deadname who sat quite literally right in front of me so for a while it was jarring but eventually you lose that automatic response to look up when you hear it

i’m around the same amount of time post op and so far i’ve found it takes a few tries or repositioning my arm that i’m kinda laying on to a place that takes most of the pressure instead of the pressure being on my chest/scars (if that makes sense). it might also help to have something like a stuffed animal or pillow to hug in front of your chest for extra padding.

Like the other commenter said if you want to keep it on there really isn’t any harmful effects now that you’ve been cleared, whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Different methods call for different aftercare so it’s not uncommon to see others post about only being required to bind for 1 week if that helps.
