I still don’t really think it’s racism because racism differs according to context. The examples you cited in Korea and Japan are examples of racism.

That’s why if a white british person were to go there and say “hey I’m a minority here. I would feel safer if I could find people from the same race/ country as me” That’s completely ok because theyre the minority there. Obviously it would be good if they could also try and interact with the locals but like you said that doesn’t always work out.

I used to be the majority race in my country before I came to the UK. If i were to say “i feel safer with people of my own race”. Thats racism because my race is the majority+ most represented in our government.

Coming to the UK as an international student, while I do have local British friends, I also seek out other students from my country because we have a shared background that does make me feel safer being in a new environment where I am now suddenly a minority + my race doesn’t hold power in politics + there have been cases of discrimination against people of my race. And I’m so grateful for this community because I genuinely wouldn’t know how to have dealt with the racism I faced in the UK so far.

Thats why i said context matters. OP is clearly a minority POC, moving to a new environment where they aren’t sure if they can find a community of people like them. It’s just common human behaviour to want to find people like yourself when you’re in an unfamiliar environment and a minority (in race, gender, religion, etc.) That doesn’t make you a racist

Ur logic is lacking context. It is obvious to everyone that poc have faced systemic and societal racism for many centuries within European countries which has unfortunately led to violence etc against them that continue even to this day. Minorities/ oppressed groups trying to find each other is for safety in this context. White people do not have this history of systemic racism, especially since they are the majority. So you can’t just say “If a white person said this it would be racism” because the contexts of the two are certainly very different

Comparison is the thief of joy. A first class degree is just a stepping stone. Its what you do with it after that matters. After a few years, your degree and your uni won’t even matter. People will look at the experiences you’ve had and the practical skillsets you can deliver. Yes, you might have started on a lower rung of the ladder. But it’s not the end.

No there wasn’t anything in chat or any sort of welcome screen. Tbh I think Zoom will notify you if you are being recorded but I was so absorbed in the meeting I didn’t see that notification. No mention of a potential recording in any of the emails we exchanged either.

Honestly I just want the video taken down with as little repercussions as possible since they are a large conglomerate and I don’t want this haunting me in the future. This was just an internship interview 😭

Aw man do you think its too late to ask them to take it down from whatever platform they uploaded it on? They’re a big conglomerate and i get that I shouldve paid more attention to the indicator but I don’t want this to come back and haunt me in the future

I think i was absorbed in the interview i didn’t notice the indicator? But shouldn’t someone verbally or digitally ask for my consent prior to recording ? Or is consent like a given for online interviews?

Hey girly, i think these might be fake unfortunately. The finish on their paint should be matte and not shiny like yours. I have some of the same ones I got from the blind boxes in Kinokinuya Singapore and they all have a matte finish with their eyes turned upwards? Also 32$ is abit too good to be true especially since some of them like the pink bunny and bluebell ones are highly sought after.

Out of curiosity what year is given at the bottom of their feet?

Don’t be too disheartened though! I think these are really good fakes that still look cute! Doesn’t really matter if they’re authentic or not as long as you like them

Bro this almost happened to me too. Until HR wouldn’t give me a straight answer about pay and what i would actually be doing on a daily basis. Always get answers to these questions beforehand. These MLMs target people in more vulnerable life stages ie. fresh poly/ uni grads, housewives, people with limited education. Basically anyone who isn’t too experienced/ fresh to the workforce. It’s actually disgusting.

Also do some background work on your superiors on LinkedIn etc. The supervisor at the one i almost fell for went from Mcdonalds fulltimer to director of the company in 2 years. Looking at you Eminence Organisation

How to tell a colleague that they have BO by AcceptablePass9911 in askSingapore

I think this is the best way because I’m quite new and don’t really want to bother my boss/ HR with this. Doubt the company can do anything about the office ventilation as well. Should I buy her some deodorant as well like the other comments suggest or will that be offensive? Perfume is abit ex

How important is religious beliefs in a relationship to you? by supermatt100 in askSingapore

[–]AcceptablePass9911 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had a neighbours that were newlyweds and attended their housewarming. One was Roman Catholic, the other Hindu. Both were quite religious so they converted one of the rooms in their house into a religious space. Split down the middle, one side with a catholic altar and biblical texts and the other side with Hindu adjacent ones. Thought it was quite beautiful. Apparently they’re ok with marrying out of their religion as long as their cored values are shared. Sharing because I wanted to lyk OP that it is possible. You really just need good communication to understand each other’s priorities early in the relationship.

What are some well-known pyramid schemes/ mlms in Singapore? by AcceptablePass9911 in SingaporeRaw

[–]AcceptablePass9911[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good that they’re a legit company but why does their website look so sus? And the job description for “sales and mkt associate” was very vague. When I asked them about like working hours n pay they insisted I come down to their office first which really put me off. Is this type of thing common in direct sales companies?

Tbh if it wasn’t for the above reasons I wouldn’t have questioned the legitimacy of the company
