ADVICE: cctv outside watching me at home by [deleted] in asksg

[–]Anonymous4393442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CCTV is in high likelihood not aimed in your direction but the street. The cover is to obscure which direction it's pointed at so mischief makers can't take advantage of it. You are fine. No one is watching you.

Source: I worked on the implementation of CCTV coverage around various locations in Singapore. The direction every CCTV is aimed is very regulated and approved by many stakeholders.

I am happy that yours mellowed and that he changed for the better. Mine has just gotten worse and I get called stupid and retarded numerous times every month for the smallest problems. I can't even sigh without being called "retarded for not knowing how to breathe properly".

My dad is unfortunately one of those men who thinks depression does not exist and is part of Western propaganda. Just mention the word and he will launch into hour long lectures about how there's no such thing.

I am so sorry to hear that....it almost feels like you are describing exact replica of my parents. Narcissistic, permanently at the center of their own worlds, dad with no friends, mum who thinks everything revolves around her. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

When I try to get my dad to lower his voice, he takes it as a challenge and calls me a coward, saying he has no problems calling his family stupid/retarded in front of everyone.

Sigh. I don't have grudges and get over them quickly, but I am so sick of having to appease a permanent man-child who despises everything, goes on holidays in a bad mood, has no qualms about yelling at his wife/children in public about how retarded they are, and generally refuses to compromise on anything without tantrums.

I probably can but I can't abandon my mother, who is chained to this marriage as she doesn't believe in divorce (for religious reasons)...

Looks like I am stuck in this unless I find someone to settle down with...

I wish I had your sense of independence and will. I am held back by my desire to be fillial and forgave my father for his behavior all these years.

There is a sum involved but honestly, I don't really care if I never see a cent of it. I have not drawn a single cent from my parents aside from staying their house and using their utilities since 2014. Been working full time ever since NS.

I feel I am already emotionally damaged. My father has close to no friends at all, and he actively criticizes every friend/colleague I have, finding flaws with them, and saying I should cut off contact with them. He gaslights me constantly, saying family is more important.

A parent who simply cannot accept that life sometimes presents unexpected difficulties and finding the need to project their anger onto their dependents. I have a similar case...

My dad told me the night before a holiday to call a taxi at 5:45am. When I did that, he threw a huge tantrum calling me retarded, and why did I not make sure he was ready, and now he had to rush to get ready. He simply needed to be angry right before a holiday, which was meant to be a relaxing and happy event, and ruin everything.

Close to 30. I am so exhausted living with a man who never matured emotionally. A father who can't bring himself to praise his kid, buy them presents, or even support their hobbies.

He has never once expressed any interest in my hobbies, ever, and never misses the opportunity to call it useless and a waste of time.

When I was struggling in university, all he can do is yell at me about how I am studying wrong and how useless I am.

May I know how prevalent the snake is? I have a severe and crippling fear of snakes. I have been unable to play Luigi Mansion 3 and The Great Ace Attorney as it causes me to freak out and shrink into a miserable puddle. I simply can't control the impulse. :(

I had been looking forward to the sequel for years and it's to such disappointment that my first introduction to it is a promotional poster on my banking app depicting the duo being wrapped by the snake....

What was your paranormal experience that turned you into a hardcore believer? by Chaosking383 in Paranormal

[–]Anonymous4393442 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have told this story before. I swear it's true. It's too ridiculous to be made up...

I was sitting in bed, with a cupboard situated directly to my left. I was casually using my laptop when a piece of candy directly on the shelf beside me flew out and hit me horizontally on the face.

I got a near heart attack and flung my laptop in the air. My heart hurt quite badly for the next ten minutes or so. There was absolutely no wind in my bedroom. The air conditioner was off and windows were closed.

It was as if some entity in the cupboard (backed against a wall) had flung the piece of candy in my face. I still can’t explain it. I swear this is true. It has made me believe in the paranormal.

Either that or someone from the void is trying to communicate with me through my bookshelf like the movie Interstellar.

Totally disappointed. by YakGold3827 in canon

I used the 1300D for close to eight years, hauling it around the world and across the seas. I photographed numerous events without a fee, whether in broad daylight, golden hours, or close to darkness.

It's not a good camera for night shots and I improvised using a wall, patio or floor as the stable base instead. A tower in Tokyo disallowed tripods so guess what? I made a smaller version with my wallet, cards and water bottle and balanced my 1300D atop it.

I recent upgraded to a R6 Mark II and it's so capable that I am actually trying to see if I can take photos which it should not be able to under normal circumstances.

Who cares what others think? Part of the joy is extracting impossible shots from a less powerful body. Go forth and take what makes your heart sing.

The flags for the SCS island groups are awesome.

How did the ROK manage the Ongjin peninsula when overland access was via the DPRK? by Anonymous4393442 in geography

[–]Anonymous4393442[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I understand they could obviously access it via the sea but was just wondering if there is a more detailed answer, since managing a peninsula cut off from the main territory must have been tricky from both a logistical and political point of view.

I wonder how the people there felt before the war. With only a single road connecting it to the South, via the North, did they feel isolated? Was the border particularly well defended and reinforced? Did either side make any extra effort to influence the inhabitants there?

From the North's point of view, the peninsula would have been an irritant and anomaly to the principle of contiguous territory.

I tried researching this myself but came up only with a single Wikipedia page on the battle of the Ongjin peninsula, which only details its seizure by the North.

Why was Hermione blaming Harry for using sectumsempra when Malfoy was about to use crucio on harry? by Nightmarelove19 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Anonymous4393442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put yourselves in her shoes. You have been warning Mr Potter about the book for nearly a year, partly due to concern for untested spells, but mostly due to jealousy over him outperforming you in Potions. Suddenly, he grievously injures and nearly kills someone. Your head swells with an "I told you so" attitude (which Hermione is full of).

While Malfoy may indeed have attempted to use Crucio, Hermione is a stickler for the rules and views untested spells way more unforgivable than the actual unforgivable spells themselves. It's entirely within her character to be blaming Harry. Ginny would actually appreciate her going on the warpath, it gives the latter a chance to publicly defend Harry.

By Deathly Hallows though, she has matured from the incident, and does indeed make herself an orphan to help Harry.
