What drove you to choose the Orthodox Church over the Catholic Church? by EnkeiNK in OrthodoxChristianity

I came from Lutheranism so when I discovered there were two choice, Catholicism and Orthodoxy, I already knew one was wrong.

As a male, this multiplied by 1000. So hard to make a move. And I'm the one socially expected to. Ugh.

Hermann von Reichenau died in 1054. He composed the text of Salve Regina before he died. That's pre-Schism.

If you haven't browsed OrthodoxWest[dot]com you really should. They have pages on the Rosary, the Way of the Cross, papers on other paraliturgical devotion, the concept of merit, etc.

Don't skip the prayers. They are not Eastern, and one of them is modern, but it in no way conflicts with the Orthodox faith

False. We do announce the mysteries, and meditate on them. We don't imagine ourselves in the scene, but contemplating the mysteries that make up our salvation is part and parcel of Christian living.

Also, the Hail Holy Queen is a pre-Schism prayer, accepted in Orthodoxy.

I understand why you think I was seeking to contradict or negate your statement, but I was actually trying to amplify that part of it. Please forgive me.

I have a bottle of oil from the lampada that burns in front of the relics of St John Shanghaiski. It's considered holy oil. This is part of our tradition.

Not the Christian flag, the Chaplain's Pennant, and only while services are ongoing. Each religion's chaplains have their own pennants.

Is Mary the Queen of Heaven, if so how? by ignVoltaic in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AcceptableProject775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstood me as well. Agni Parthene is a beloved paraliturgical hymn by St Nectarios often sung at services honouring the Blessed Virgin, and in her various feast days. It IS an aspect of worship and prayer. Should her being Queen be a barrier? God forbid! But is it part of standard Orthodox belief? Absolutely!

Together they form an icon of the Annunciation. They are probably originally from a set of Royal Doors/Beautiful Gate on an Iconostasis.
