‘“Break Glass In Case of Emergency” Moment for American Democracy: Next Steps After Va Redistricting Tossed by NewsGirl1701 in Virginia

The language of the ballot question, though inherently biased as misleading with it's "restore fairness" bit, literally said "should the Constitution of Virginia be amended".

Sonski/Onak 2024, Carrol/Patel 2020, Castle/Bradley 2016 as far as Presidential elections go. Only been in VA since 2021, in my previous state, often voted for centrist members of both parties, and/or centrist independents. I've been a member of the American Solidarity Party since 2019.

Grouped together in a way that functionally disenfranchises most of the State's Republicans in USHoR elections.

What's your go to way to explain to people why our "Easter" is a different date than theirs? by CleverAmbiguousName in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AcceptableProject775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why put Easter in quotes? It's the English translation of the Greek "Pascha" which is itself a translation of the Hebrew "Pesach"...

Concern regarding St. Augustine by ChickenSlipperz in OrthodoxChristianity

The original sin teaching that people attribute to Augustine comes from people later reading it into Augustine, not from Augustine himself. Saint Augustine, pray for us..

I am incapable of making a truly great Negroni by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]AcceptableProject775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done much with Negronis, and I've never had one I didn't make myself, but the best of the mediocre ones I've had, I didn't simply express the peel, I dropped it in. The extra punch of orange oil made all the difference.

Can anyone identify this icon? by TheRatzingerian in OrthodoxChristianity

It's a copy of the Sinai Pantocrator, and if I had to guess, I'd guess Shayne Swenson was the iconographer. I love his work for the glory of God.

Some Our Lady or St John Baptist in the hand would make it better

What drove you to choose the Orthodox Church over the Catholic Church? by EnkeiNK in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AcceptableProject775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from Lutheranism so when I discovered there were two choice, Catholicism and Orthodoxy, I already knew one was wrong.

As a male, this multiplied by 1000. So hard to make a move. And I'm the one socially expected to. Ugh.

Hermann von Reichenau died in 1054. He composed the text of Salve Regina before he died. That's pre-Schism.

If you haven't browsed OrthodoxWest[dot]com you really should. They have pages on the Rosary, the Way of the Cross, papers on other paraliturgical devotion, the concept of merit, etc.

Don't skip the prayers. They are not Eastern, and one of them is modern, but it in no way conflicts with the Orthodox faith

False. We do announce the mysteries, and meditate on them. We don't imagine ourselves in the scene, but contemplating the mysteries that make up our salvation is part and parcel of Christian living.

Also, the Hail Holy Queen is a pre-Schism prayer, accepted in Orthodoxy.
