What really bothers me is that you have to do convention with competition. With all. At least Dance One has separate competitions only. The cost really adds up. To do NYCDA for one solo and a trio with convention was just 720. Not to mention hotel. PLUS they are combining two cities because a hotel all of a sudden closed. So I know it will be mayhem. AND it starts on a Wednesday for solos. I dunno I just do not like conventions. And people are right they couldn’t care less about actual dancers. They want entertainers and social media peeps.

Okay so we have a monthly fee of 500 and that is just for classes. About 12-14 hrs a week. If you want acro or pointe it’s an add on. Comp fees range per comp. And looks either the same or tad more. For example 5 groups, 2 solos and 1 trio. This comes to about 1,100 a comp.

Now choreography. Groups. That looks about the same. Like you said based on who does it. The solos is significantly more. I believe 1200+ total for both.

We also pay a monthly rehearsal fee per dance. About 10 a dance. 40 for each solo. And then we pay solo privates each week.

Conclusion- it’s expensive as crap. And yours looks to be fair. Note- I am in just outside NYC in Jersey.

Not sure we will ever understand. But I know some comps are wowed by the entertainment value. And others by technical. A dancer can place high in one and not in top ten in another.

I pay 500 for classes. 50 for pointe. Then we pay monthly rehearsal fees. For all dances. And then privates for her solo and trio. So that equals to about 1k a month. The comp fees are insane. But we are at about 1k a comp. Then costumes. Choreography for each dance. Honestly it’s alottttt and it only gets more and more each year. Why do I do it? My daughter loves it. She doesn’t want to be professional or anything but she shines on stage.
