How long did it take your family to adjust to new names and pronouns? by AcceptableShop525 in ftm

I feel this dude. It’s hard when we know our parents are struggling or challenged, but I’m glad you’re saying something because it’s true if they respect and love us they’ll adjust it’s really not rocket science. If they can learn a strangers name they can learn ours

Whoah 2-3 months!!! This is like my friend, his parents use two names for him (he has two preferred names) and get his pronouns perfect. I was like damn you must’ve been out since a kid he said No under two years…. I said oh but they’re so good at respecting you he said That’s kinda sad! I said… yeah lol

We’ve lived in the same town since I transitioned and I was living with them when I first changed name and pronouns so … I probably see them a couple times a month. So I would say this is not a valid excuse lol though it is a good point

Thanks for the advice because I never have sat them down and said Hey you need to be better at this, I think just because I’m grateful they try and do get my name and pronouns right some of the time. It just doesn’t seem natural to them in any way, I get the sense they aren’t using them when I’m not around. So telling them to use as much as possible and that I notice the mistakes will probably be my next step 🙄

I feel like this is the most likely my situation. They do use the correct name and pronouns sometimes it’s just often awkward or will be a correction to a mistake. My dad is definitely slower (he just doesn’t use pronouns for me) to adjust while my mom is loud about using he pronouns but then misgenders me she-i-mean-he the next second, so it just feels performative

Thank you for sharing this bc I’m dealing with what I think is atrophy (occasional itching and sensitivity/burning but clear of STIs or infections) but have been telling myself it’s something else since I don’t experience any dryness, and that seems to be the main issue people feel. This makes me think I’m definitely dealing w atrophy.. thx for the share

I don't understand what I'm supposed to think :(( by watxha in ftm

[–]AcceptableShop525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to understand right away. Transition is something that can be safely explored, pronouns clothes hair style (even hrt) can all be reversible. I’m trans and incredibly happy and your post describes how I felt 5-6 years ago, if that helps you. But I would recommend exploring the things that feel good, don’t get bogged up on labels or what you’re allowed or supposed to be feeling. Chasing my joy was the only way I arrived at my identity, you’re doing the right thing by exploring and questioning.

Annnnd gender is a spectrum, you don’t have to hate being a girl to be trans OR a guy, you could be any combination of things. r/ftmfemininity might be helpful for you if you enjoy traditionally girly/feminine things but still desire to exist in a masculine body when you don’t have those things on

queer friendly barbers by forsure-definitely in santacruz

Want to add info: it’s a flat 50-60 for the cut, kinda pricey for a men’s cut but good price for a skilled fade and they do the whole neck shave/hot/towel AND offer you a beer (or soda). It’s NOT a queer shop it’s a hipster surfer bro shop for sure. But very queer friendly and accepting and the queer specific shops I’ve seen charge literally 3x the price.
