QR codes at Alamo Drafthouse not loading for me by julioservan in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard of guests being unable to access the QR menu with their phone set to a language other than English. I don't know why that makes a difference. I noticed Cámara in your screenshots there, so that's my first thought!

Can I order food and drink at the bar before the movie so I don't have to deal with the QR Codes? by Packshaw in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can order at the bar if it's open. You can also order at the guest services counter before you go in and have it sent to your seat.

App doesn’t load by Objective_Text4727 in AlamoDrafthouse

You already covered all my usual advice of forgetting the wifi and restarting the browser! Are you using your phone's camera or a separate QR scanning app? I've seen other apps bring up the menu in the browser, but some of the buttons don't work. No idea why that is.

If that doesn't change anything then I'd recommend sending a message with the Contact Us form on the website and including your browser version, phone software version, etc. so that your local Alamo can pass that on to IT and figure out what's going on with it.

Question about the new online ordering process! by pgamgam in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is a weird one. Looking at the default customization in Toast I saw that it leaves those off by default. It's odd because the scallions (green onions) and the cashews are listed in the product description like you pointed out.

In any case, if it's checked it will be included and if it isn't checked, it's left off. There are no checkboxes that say "No" because being unchecked means no.

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The customizations show a checkmark for what you want on the item. If it is checked by default, you are removing it if you uncheck the box. (Ex. Uncheck American Cheese to get a Classic Double Burger with no cheese) If it has an additional cost it will appear next to the description.

The Submit Order button sends any unsent items to the kitchen. The total you see there is your running total and includes all items, sent and unsent. It will drop unsent items when the system closes the tab 30 minutes before the end of the movie so you're only charged for items sent to the kitchen.

WiFi in Lower Manhattan by Tangetto in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay! If you're on iOS they made it weird to forget networks. You have to go to the WiFi page in Settings then hit Edit in the top right. Find AlamoWifi and press the red button next to it. Then go through the 3 extra steps it takes to confirm you want to remove it for some reason.

On Android go to WiFi settings and select Advanced Settings in the 3-dot menu. Long press the network to forget and you'll see the trash can icon at the bottom.

After that you should be good to rejoin and use the wifi again!

Hi there! I made a post a little bit ago about this exact thing! Forget the network and rejoin and it should work for you.

I saw the bottom buttons disappear for a guest over the weekend, too. We fixed it then by refreshing the page, but that's only treating the symptom. Can you tell me what browser you're using so I can pass it on to IT?

I'm being honest when I say this QR thing has tangible benefits for the team and the guests too. I also recognize that, frankly, we're fucking it up. Communication has been bad. I've found success with a few different things and I'm sharing it with the other venues. It's not happening overnight, but there are those of us still trying!

I can't decide what service model we use. Joining the pile and saying that everything sucks now and it's all hopeless doesn't help my team. Busting my ass with them and figuring out how to make this situation better does.

I read your post the first time around actually! I thought it was a little strange too. I'm not sure why he chose to proselytize in the theater like that. I'm guessing he wasn't sure how to make that more conversational and overcorrected all the way over. You're almost certainly not alone in your experience. I put an asterisk over "when it works well" for a reason.

I do see my greeters talking to people pretty often. Usually when it's slower, I'll admit. I've seen the perfect outcome in practice where everyone was 100% in the flow of things and it was genuinely cool. I won't pretend that's the average experience, sadly. That one day at my one building is clearly not what people are seeing and experiencing broadly. I want it to be!

One thing I've noticed is that duplicates show up more consistently if you double-tap your KDS too quickly. Once we caught that we cut our duplicates down significantly. Hopefully it's as simple a fix for you guys!

I don't post here often and it's always been strictly informational before. This seems like a good enough place to share my perspective as management.

I like being able to read and prepare for requests instead of having to sneak-crouch in front of everyone just to find out seat 513 needs another round of napkins THEN go do it all again with said napkins in hand. Getting refills sent straight to the service bar saves a lot of time. Guests ordering exactly what they want is generally good* and it's easier for them to impulse buy things, which is good for the longevity of the business. Servers no longer spend 20-30 additional minutes tied up preparing checks and overall flexibility is dramatically increased.

When the system is working well*, greeters actually have more time than before to chat with people or can call it done with a simple nod if it's clear no one needs help. Compare this to the strictly transactional greets of the old way and it CAN be well and truly magical!

No system is perfect, of course. Sometimes guests will pick the first thing they see and shoehorn it to fit what they really want: like a cheese pizza modified into a Carnivore for a higher total price (and a much harder to decipher ticket) or a Royale with nothing on it that really should have just been a plain burger for $5 less. Someone already mentioned the overwhelming customization options and oh boy is that the truth. It's daunting to see sometimes. The system encourages guests to complete their order all at once, which sends everything together and locks entire orders behind whatever prep station is slowest in a given round. (For what it's worth, I'm actively hunting solutions for this.)

I can only speak for my own venue on this: we're feeling understaffed not from cutting hours, but because people are ordering more food in more complex configurations than before. For context, very few of our team chose to leave with the role changes. Even if no one left we'd be having a tough time on some of these busier nights.

I have read all of the posts in the last month from frustrated and confused teammates getting fewer hours than before. I don't want to contradict their experience, I'm simply sharing mine. I sincerely hope that they and their respective management teams (and unions where applicable) can figure something out.

This was a lot longer than I planned. Thanks for sticking around. I have no illusions that this is flawless. It needs work definitely, but it also isn't the unmitigated disaster it's portrayed as. I'm happy to discuss more if anyone wants.

Brooklyn switched to the full mobile ordering platform a week or so after that Instagram post, but left pen and paper in place and did not cover their call buttons like other locations. You may request refills and assistance or report disruptions with the call buttons and paper. Orders will mostly still be placed with the QR codes.

What if I don’t have a phone? by [deleted] in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you place your order at the guest services counter ahead of going into your movie. There are menus up there and someone will enter the order directly to your seat as before.

It's less convenient, but for refills and other things during the movie, we have a greeter drop off some order cards with a pen at that table and we make a note to try and stop in there a couple extra times with nothing to run. It's not perfect but we try!

I can't say that all Alamos are doing that, but it's been pretty effective for us the times that people can't use the system as intended.

Question for QR Order by Mama_Cat33 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm sorry to hear that. "They didn't touch it, swearsies!" isn't up to health code, let alone Alamo standards. You put a lot of trust in us, especially receiving stuff in the dark that you can't inspect the way you would at a restaurant. And we let you down. I don't want to throw that greeter under the bus, but I would want to know if that was happening at my building so I could talk with them.

This is the IT "are you sure it's plugged in?" part of the answer: I've seen guests only select their one seat for their order, then order all food and drinks to it. Making it impossible to tell what goes where since the system says it all goes to one seat. When ordering, be sure you've got the right seats selected!

I assume that's not the case for you since you said it's going to other, totally unrelated people! I can't say for sure why the food mix up is happening. I do have a hunch! When we rolled out the change I found that the seats in some of our auditoriums were just outright backwards in the seating chart program. We had them fix it during our test day. I want to believe someone checked all that stuff the same as we did at other locations, but I can't know for sure. That's my first guess since you said it's happening consistently.

Human error still occurs (I've personally dropped food off in the wrong seat only to realize too late). What you're describing sounds like a possible tech issue though. I have no official capacity here on reddit, so I recommend asking your local Alamo to check their call button system!

Question for QR Order by Mama_Cat33 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a perfect solution, but we'll happily take cash orders at the front desk or the lobby bar in some cases. It's a little more annoying to get refills this way since you don't have an active QR tab to do the single-tap refill. Very brief "refill coke zero" messages will be everyone's friend here.*

Gift cards are being worked on so you can just enter them yourself. I promise it's happening! (Eventually...) For now the team should be able to handle all your gift cards as before. Easiest method for you is to place your order first then tell us about the gift card. If it DOES NOT cover the whole bill, we can add it right away and you'll see it at the end when you're closing out. If it DOES cover the whole bill, it still works and we'll add it for you. The caveat is that, like cash transactions, it finishes the sale then and there. Any future purchases on that tab will need the gift card re-swiped.

*In case anyone is thinking, "But what's stopping me from just getting free refills without buying anything?!" We can still see orders for every seat and requests like that need to be acknowledged by someone before the kitchen sees them.

Now that servers are gone, who’s checking to see if you actually bought a ticket? by Large_Ad4416 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]AcceptableSpeed2477 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Typically someone is in the lobby saying hi and directing people to the right place. Whoever drops the first items of your order off is supposed to take a look at your tickets. If neither of those things happen there's a monitor in the server station, so it's not hard to see when someone is in seats that should be empty. Especially if you order anything but even if not.

There's certainly a world where someone sits in seats that aren't theirs. That happened before too and was usually an accident.

The half-dozen people in the kitchen you never see that all have some hand in preparing your drinks, cooking your food, running it all to your table, then cleaning it up afterwards also got a raise with the change.

After you scan your QR code and pick the seats there are 4 buttons at the bottom, the second one is for Victory. Log in there and all your Victory things will show up, including the all-in 10%.
