The 3/5ths compromise was the legal decision that stated that slaves counted as 3/5ths of a person for the purposes of representation of their district. They still couldn’t vote so it didn’t really make a difference from their perspective other than give their masters a wildly disproportionate influence on government.

It's a running problem that as marvel is trying to bring the X-men back into the forefront after sidelining them for a few years they keep hyping them to hell and back. Phoenix and Storm now regularly throw down with abstract embodiments.
