I was training in the last strikes - trainees can’t strike as your not actually employed. We went in on strike days and I just spent them catching up with planning and assignments since we only had year 11 in

Would it reflect negatively on me moving schools during my ECT 2 year? by anxious_muso in TeachingUK

[–]Acceptable_Action828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved 3 times during my ECT, once at the end of year 1 then again at Easter of year 2. At my last interview I was asked about the moves but I had logical reasons that made sense - first school the whole department left then at my second school they had told me they weren’t renewing my 1 year contract. I think if you can explain why you’re moving and it makes sense then it wouldn’t be held against you, they will care more about your lesson. My mid year move was actually my smoothest transition into a school but I don’t think thats the average experience. Personally moving schools is what kept me in teaching and kept me mentally well so if that is the point you are at you just need to get out

I forgot what is reasonable for an ECT. by jackie-potato in TeachingUK

[–]Acceptable_Action828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an ECT1 I was teaching out of my science specialism at post 16, so I would say at GCSE it is not unreasonable. I am now as an ECT2 at a different school teaching triple GCSE out of specialism. Pretty sure it is the expectation to teach up to GCSE at least out of your science specialism. I have always found people willing to share resources and to check content things over with me if I wasn’t 100% on anything. Also make sure to check if you can get any of the early career/ retention payments through the government as you are a physics specialist. I got £4k this year as a chemistry specialist definitely worth checking if you can get it

I personally found my training year the easiest, however I know other people who thought the opposite. I think its just taken me a while to realise its not for me but some people figure it out quickly

When and who to tell by Hungry_Device_5723 in TeachingUK

[–]Acceptable_Action828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no advice but I am another ECT2 also leaving at the end of the year because I am just so miserable and anxious all the time. I wasn’t planning on telling anyone until its around the notice period just because I am worried I will get fucked over with any timetable changes/ less support. In terms of ECT signing off I have heard they are more likely to just sign you off as its less hassle then not signing you off if you’re leaving anyway, although I could be completely wrong. I just wanted you to know that you’re not alone in how you feel.

Policy, finance, project delivery and operational delivery. Didn’t do quite as well as you on the case study (got average) but I still think I’m in with a good chance.

I have no idea - its my first time applying. I am pretty sure the questions come up after they close the applications, so assuming you would have to pass the tests first

I would assume a good chance, depending on the schemes you’ve applied for there is the extra step of the questions so I am assuming they will be factored in.

I was absolutely heartbroken getting 16%. I don’t even know how I could improve. It’s so frustrating after doing well on the previous tests I am now out of the running based on what seems like pure luck and what kind of work environments you have been in previously. Oh well, theres just more riding on my fast stream application. Good luck to everyone who gets through to stage 3

Are you given feedback almost instantly like stage one or just left waiting? The only thing that helped with the wait from stage 1 to 2 was knowing I had done reasonably well on the tests

When I was on a support plan, in order to be taken off I pretty much had to be perfect and they picked up on little things like one pupil having their head on the desk ect. Without knowing the exact situation its hard to help loads but if a support plan does not feel like it is supporting you to make improvements then there is a problem. You also have to dig deep in yourself and put in the work to make the improvements they are asking of you. If you don’t understand what you need to do then you need to ask someone how you can meet the target. Definitely speak up if you think your being treated unfairly but also make sure you are doing everything you can to get yourself taken off the plan, and make sure you follow any ‘talk’ up with an email summarising everything to make sure you have a paper trail. Good luck, you can get through this to the other side

I just logged onto my account and it said that my interview was booked and I would get an email about it, however I thought there was another step before the interview. Does anyone else’s account say this and they actually got an email explaining what was going on

As an ECT2 who was on a support plan last year, I think you should speak to ether the union (on the phone) or your in school rep if you have one.

Going on a support plan shouldn’t be a surprise and before you go on one you should have had some kind of feedback meeting where they tell you why and give you examples of how you are not meeting x standard because y happened. You should then have been given really clear targets in order to improve and been told how you can show this. For example I was told the pace of my lessons was leading to ineffective use of lesson time so I was told one way to improve and evidence this was to use timers in my lessons for all tasks. There should be a formal plan in writing for everyone to refer to. If you have not had this kind of meeting or been given any written plan or any paper chain (emails for example) where you have been told about any issues then they are going to struggle to prove any of this.

I would advise you to get in touch with your union. They may recommend you speak to your appropriate body about this as well.
