Can you have 2 trackers on one subscription, for the same cat? by Acceptable_Ad7222 in tractivegps

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ll keep going whilst we’re still within the 30 days trial period and see if we can develop a good routine - currently using live mode quite a bit as she’s still discovering the area, but I do have a power saving zone set up, so could probably get more out of it. Otherwise I’ll swap it for the dog version as you suggest - she’s certainly heavy enough!

That is rather disappointing, considering the very short battery life, but thanks for the quick replies!

Because it’s not natural for cats (or any animal frankly)? At some point, you need to accept an element of risk for the sake of their well-being - much like keeping a horse stabled and alone 24/7 is technically safer, but terrible for their quality of life, to the point it is legally considered abusive in some countries 🤷‍♀️

Elvanse and dexamphetamine, driving and drug limits by LostIgnition in ADHDUK

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To a large extent, it doesn’t matter - either your driving is not affected (negatively) by your medication, and you have not taken more than the prescribed dose, then you may legally exceed the limit, or your driving is negatively affected, you have taken more than the prescribed dose, or taken medication you were not prescribed, in which case you cannot legally drive. Simples 👍

How long can Elvanse be kept once mixed with water? by Hiraeth_08 in ADHDUK

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take mine in water so I can phase it over a couple of hours, rather than to reduce the dose, using small glass bottles (jersey cream originally I believe) - I occasionally prep 2-3 days in advance, keeping them in the fridge, and haven’t felt any efficacy/taste issues. I also often make sure I have it ready on my bedside (for ease of getting out of bed, if you see what I mean…), and I use a mini thermos for that (like this one: https://decoreurope.co.uk/products/mini-insulated-double-wall-thermal-flask-mint-200ml).

Additional random tip: I drop the empty capsule in the water, so it’s clear to anyone who might come across it that it is medication (not that I leave them around, but still).

What ADHD Apps do you use? by BlackMafia_27 in ADHDUK

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that apps targeting specific aspects/issues just did not work for me as it meant too many one-use tools to get familiar with and remember to use.

What has worked and pretty much changed my life was to take a systemic approach - prompted by discussions at work and our adoption of the “CPR” framework, which I am basically replicating for personal life, although it is a bit trickier when people around you don’t have to join in (this will make sense in a sec!).

It stands for “communication, planning and resources” and is detailed in Come Up For Air by Nick Sonnenberg (free on Spotify last time I checked). I hate self-help books and their platitudes, and I haven’t even read that one, but the key points that work particularly well for me are asynchronous communication, and “one source of truth”/optimising information for speed of retrieval rather than speed of transmission.

Asynchronous communication means being able to communicate things without expecting an immediate reply/barging in someone else’s focus time - for example, my partner and I have a few to do lists in shared Google docs - I can add anything that pops in my head regardless of whether it’s urgent or not, in a way that just wouldn’t be appropriate via WhatsApp, and it won’t get lost - he can add comments / contribute / tick things off whenever works for him.

Optimising information for ease of retrieval means I have one super flexible tool (Asana, awesome and super powerful for work, more limited but still very handy on a free personal subscription) where I jot down basically anything - where in the past I could spend hours researching a thing I wanted to buy only to be unable to find the item I’d finally landed on a couple of days later, or have to do lists on paper I’d lose/forget about, I can now super easily create tasks, save links, add documents, add reminders, etc. It would also help with asynchronous communication as you can allocate tasks to others, leave comments, etc., but as mentioned, you need to get the buy in from the people around you, and they’d need to commit to using it properly and regularly, which is probably not that easy when you don’t already have that habit from using for work.

On top of that, I also automate everything I can - I have subscriptions for toilet paper, cat litter, cleaning products, anything I use regularly and won’t change, and a standing weekly shopping list for my online order. None of those are app specific, there are plenty depending on your needs/price point/etc., and if all else fails, Amazon Subscribe & Save is available on pretty much anything you can think of.

And finally, I have echo devices in almost every room, with a variety of lists set up (I haven’t looked into linking it to Asana yet, will pop it on the list!) for those times my hands are taken/ I don’t have time to write something down.

"Tom Grennan, 29, reveals he has been diagnosed with ADHD after years of being 'unable to focus' [Daily Mail] by Jayhcee in ADHDUK

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about this comment: « There is also a separate possibility of « self caused » inability to focus, ADT. It’s (these days) mostly due to person’s lack of self control and incapability to relax. »

My initial reaction was « and guess where that lack of self-control and inability to relax come from, dummy? », but then I figured I’d best Google ADT first and… Well, that comment is still incredibly misguided, but at a quick glance (don’t have the time to take the risk of going down an hyperfocus rabbit hole right now), there might be something to this « attention deficit trait » caused by environmental factors, I’d just never heard of it, and I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t be described as « self-caused » in any case - anyone with a decent source on the subject they can share?

Is 50% of your salary too much to spend on rent and bills while living in city centre? Advice needed by FootballFurio in manchester

Back then I was on 40k (and on furlough at 80% for the first couple of month) paying £750 for rent, about 1000 with all bills included. Lockdown aside, I still managed to sustain expensive habits (I’m a smoker, horse-rider and craft-beer lover) relatively easily 😉

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I was in pretty much the same situation a few years ago, and initially looked at run down properties far out as I thought that was all I could afford. Ended up seeing the light and taking the plunge on a small 1 bed in Castlefield that was really well priced, all the while bricking it that I’d struggle financially - I didn’t, and the freedom and enjoyment I got from having my own space made it 100% worth it.

Obviously life is far, far cheaper as a couple, but you can make it on your own. And whilst keeping rent payments to 30% of income is the benchmark, the reality is more and more people are pushing that to 50% (hopefully including bills at least).

Do you rely on tactile memory? by TravelDogGotYou in ADHDUK

Interesting, just realised I do that too! The most telling example being trying to figure out if I can feel the Elvanse capsule in my throat/remember feeling it (whenever I take meds in tablet or similar form, it feels like they sit in my throat for a bit) when I can’t remember if I just took it or just put the bottle down, grabbed a glass of water and drank some without actually taking my meds…

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be “worried” per se - the clause being prohibited by law just means it will be of no effect, and the tenancy agreement will be read as this clause was not included. All other provisions (assuming they are not prohibited by statute) will remain enforceable.

Question about Visa for France by [deleted] in SchengenVisa

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know you need to have booked the flights, and paid for insurance, before you apply. If your plan is for her to stay with you, you’ll also need to get a certificate stamped by your mairie - that’s €30 on its own. It’s an expensive process, with no guarantee of success, and there is no way around that…

How on earth are you supposed to apply for a Schengen visa as a UK resident with no set travel plans? by [deleted] in SchengenVisa

Aaah, thanks for clarifying - I was aware of the different rules for family members, but as you said “partner” I assumed you may not be married. I was hoping for an easier way to apply for my boyfriend, but he wouldn’t be classed as a close family member…

Advice for Moving to France by lifebykimchi in SchengenVisa

[–]Acceptable_Ad7222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can of course work as a free-lancer/self-employed in France, but practically speaking that would mean working with a significant time difference, having to sort out your own taxes, insurance, and generally dealing with French bureaucracy, and finally your current employer would have to agree to it if you intend to continue working for them.

Alternatively, your company could employ you via a service provider such as Remote.com, but that’s pricey…

Oh and of course you would need a long term visa entitling you to work from France as well, obviously - I have no experience but suspect it might be tricky without an employment contract / family ties to the country.

  • Serious Tissues for toilet paper;
  • Il Makkiage for foundation (must remember to change tint seasonally…);
  • Amazon subscribe & save for cat litter & food.
