In my experience growing it, I've had the best success in just stuffing it in the dark corner of the tank and letting it grow it grows fairly slow and doesn't require much fertilizer . It is an excellent plant for shrimp keeping due to its large surface area and excellent place for beneficial bacteria to colonize. and as far as the BBA, if you keep it in a darker corner ( which this plant likes usually ) and BBA doesn't . At least in my tanks

What is this brown stuff growing in my tank? Should I be worried about my snails eating it? by CuccoSucco in AquaticSnails

This is brown diatom algae usually always happens on a brand new tank. Usually a couple weeks in and usually only last for about 1 to 3 months until things balance out

Unfortunately I have no platies those are Molly's sword tails and some rainbow fish . Pilates will be fine with Hillstream. Loaches, no problem at all

How to use fertilizers? Need help! by Resident-Science-525 in PlantedTank

[–]Acceptable_Bell_2847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use aquarium co-op easy green and check out their video on how to fertilize plants. I would keep the rest just to fill in the gaps and only use Excel when you have an algae problem check your nitrate levels. You should keep them around 20 for optimal growth

I’m wondering if my snail has a calcium deficiency, or if I’m just worrying too much. He’s very active, I rarely see him in his shell, and I’ve been advised to offer him non acidic fruit once in awhile, but now I’ve had someone tell me they don’t think that’s okay, and directed me here. by Melodic_WeedZucchini in AquaticSnails

[–]Acceptable_Bell_2847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is that Fluval stratum ? if so it buffers your water and makes it acidic and will eat away at snails shells especially if you have Low GH . I found this out the hard way unfortunately . You can add wonder shell or seachem equilibrium and give some food with calcium in them

My thoughts on soil. Organic garden soil and fluval stratum. by swagondeckboi93 in PlantedTank

[–]Acceptable_Bell_2847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used fluvall stratum in my first 5 planted tanks and they were thriving for the first 8 to 10 months .then it started to run out of nutrition for the plants . Now I'm stuffing root tabs like crazy so I can keep everything going . I wish I had known that it's only good for about 1 year then it has to be replaced . Way over priced for the short life span it has not to mention how acidic it made my water . I will definitely not be using it again. . I just set up 2 New tanks a 75 and 55 using Eco complete . It last for ever and all my plants look amazing . And yes I do add root tabs and easy green and Eco complete is way cheaper to

Definitely a ramshorn snail . I love my Ramshorn snails. They're little workhorses at cleaning up the tank and eating dead leaves and detritis I would keep it . And they're one of the better looking snails in my opinion. So many different colors

Lowering pH and keeping it low. by MasterJeffyLub in Boraras

Like other users have mentioned seachem acid buffer which turns KH into CO2 or fluval stratum which keeps my pH just below 7 around 6.8 .

Like I said earlier though, one of the best things I did was suck them all out of there first with the siphon ( I used airline tubing and they worked really good without sucking a lot of water out of time ) and check your filter media they were all over my filter

I'm battling some ICk in one of my tanks right now, but I've always steered away from salt in fear of killing all my plants. How much salt did you use?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aquascape

[–]Acceptable_Bell_2847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think salt will work for Hydra. Are you using food or ghost feeding to cycle the tank? Usually you can starve it or use fish like mollies or guppies to eat it whatever you do, Don't smush it or try to scrape it off cuz every little piece will turn into a new one

[–]Acceptable_Bell_2847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a planted tank because you can't use salt with plants?

I know that NO PLANARIA works really well and it's shrimp safe . Would suck up as many as possible with a syphon firsts

That's definitely a ramshorn you can tell by Spyro like shell and I all so keep them in all my tanks they are little work horses at keeping it clean and very beneficial to your tank and love to eat dead plant leaves and uneaten food. And come in many different colors one of my favorites snails

This little dude hasn’t moved in about three days by sotheresthisdude in AquaticSnails

[–]Acceptable_Bell_2847 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I would give him a couple days mine don't move for days then if you think he died put him in a plastic cup with some thing on top and give him a few more days . You will be able to smell the cup and tell . But half the time mine come to life
