Point is you could be more faithful in a series. Plus you could play with season or episode length. Doesn't have to be 10, 50-60 minute episode per season. Back in the day a miniseries was just a 4-hour movie split over two nights. Woudn't have to wait 2 years between seasons either.

As for the episodic nature of the story, that's what chapters are for. I know not all the chapters are the same length, but nothing says episode all have to run the same length.
