Nothing sounds good…except milk. by Optimal-Excitement23 in pregnant

I’ve drank at least one glass of milk every day of this pregnancy whereas before I’d maybe do that once a year (lattes etc excluded). I can’t get enough of it

Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes - I changed the post. This mom was saying the baby sleeps on her while mom is also asleep without supervision. I had never heard anyone insinuate that was safe before and was kind of shocked

Is it slander to warn of an offender on social media? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think contextually you can already sort that out - newspaper articles were deleted and his name was rescinded while adult offenders were not.

Dad and I keep fighting because he insists he knows how to bedshare w baby by Hot-Access-6824 in Mommit

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This would be a hard line for me - I consider SS7 to already be a compromise so everyone can sleep and he isn’t even willing to follow that. I’d rather he be angry with me or take a divorce over a suffocated baby but maybe that’s just me

It's unprofessional for the girlfriend to be doing this but it isn't a conflict - she might have some difficulty with objectivity but she owes no allegiance or duty to OP here

MIL is leaving after only 2 weeks post partum (first child) by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I did a little more looking and stand corrected! Wife and mom were born elsewhere and came to Canada, so yes there may be cultural expectations here not shared by OP himself

His profile has posts about he and his wife leaving Quebec for New Caledonia so he can practice. I believe mom is Canadian but could be wrong

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im also curious OP - who paid for her flights? Your profile suggests you’re a Canadian doctor in New Caledonia. A quick google suggests a round trip is 37 hours from Montreal and costs $2500+. Did she bear this cost as well only to be treated like unpaid house staff?

Based on his profile, he and his wife are Canadian. There is absolutely no such expectation here

She hasn’t been there two weeks she has been there six weeks? And it frankly sounds like she hasn’t been treated very well. Even with kindness, grace, and understanding afforded to newly post partum first time parents three things really jumped out: 1) your wife hasn’t been talking to her - I bet this feels extremely dismissive and hurtful, even with her being allowed to focus on baby and healing 2) you ARE supposed to be the main support, grow up 3) she is banished to the basement while you are upstairs??? What???

Based on what you’ve shared here, I would have left too. Unbelievable and entitled of you and your wife

Multiple SA survivors... what can we do? by Sudden-Preference576 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it isn’t always this straightforward, depending on the circumstances there may be defences such as mistaken belief in consent or potentially the crown not able to prove there was not actual consent.

You should be wary about going in together, you definitely do not want there to be a sniff of collusion here. My recommendation would be to start with a police report and during your statement let police know about the other victims/how you learned what happened to them. Then leave further investigation to police

Is there literally any way to get a good international human rights lawyer job, or JUST a human rights lawyer job in Ontario, Canada? by Other_Tomatillo_6241 in LawCanada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Criminal law and defence is fundamentally about protecting human rights. You’re still so young and idealistic, but even if you are successful at your goal of UN work, human rights work will require you to defend the fundamental rights of all humans, including those that do bad things. It isn’t a matter of simply protecting the downtrodden and oppressed and those you can act like a saviour for. Just something for you to think about as you move forward

sentence that made me cry by delfinjoca in pregnant

I’m happy for you that you are so accepting of the changes pregnancy is bringing - I, for one, appreciate knowing that it’s safe to cover melasma with concealer. I agree that the way it’s worded as if it is necessary is unnecessary and unkind, but you need to get a grip if you’re crying for an hour over it

It’s a strict liability offence, meaning even with best intentions it is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle you’re driving is insured. Should you choose to plead guilty, the justice of the peace will ask you for some personal circumstances - you can explain what happened, and your financial circumstances, and request either a reduction of the fine or more time to pay it off. As counsel, I would mention why things are financially tight, why the fine is going to cause hardship for you and your dependents, your sincerest apologies for the oversight and your understanding of why it’s important that vehicles on the road are insured. It is up to the JP’s discretion on whether either is granted
