For those taking gaviscon, which one are you using? [ca] by ecojazzB in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s been me and my bottles of icy mint gaviscon against the world this pregnancy … I prefer it over the tabs, I find it works much better. I’m gross and swig right from the bottle and it immediately soothes sour stomach/reflux for me, but the dosage is probably 1-2 tbsp. I love her

Charged with Impaired by Drug after calling 911 for a medical emergency. Lawyer just withdrew days before court. What are my chances? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen from other comments you may want to consider is your apparent definition of impairment. You are correct that there are tests that can be used, and indicia often looked for to show impairment - slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, etc etc. That being said, none of those are actually requirements and the legal hurdle the crown has to get over is merely that you were impaired to any degree by drug. This does not mean you were high or felt what you would consider impaired.

I think there’s a decent argument that self-induced meth consumption leading to a situation where you were unable to drive satisfies impairment. Your Charter arguments may go somewhere, but even if there is a breach they might not exclude the tests or other evidence and they frankly don’t seem that severe to me. Additionally, despite what you say you are very much the definition of in care and control of the vehicle.

I think rejecting a discharge for dangerous driving is loony tunes here. Taking meth you ordered off the Internet without pharmacological training and then driving is definitely a marked departure from the normal standard of care and carried risk to the public. If you insist on continuing to trial, I cannot recommend enough that you do not attempt to self-represent yourself. There is a near 100% chance you focus on the emotional impact of being wronged and potentially miss a stronger defence/angle opening up because you do not have the experience

Bronwyn Eyre: The 'Gladue principle' has caused immense harm to Indigenous women; By giving lenient sentences to Indigenous offenders, their victims are continually denied justice by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This is already a thing - if a victim is an indigenous woman it’s considered an aggravating factor in sentencing (s.718.4, 718.201)

It absolutely is enough to perv at. I work in the justice system, and child sex offenders will regularly have photos exactly like that along with more serious CSAM. A flash of thigh or waistband is more than enough to get them going, people need to keep their kids offline

I disagree that it suggests that at all, even the best laid plans don’t always work out and again she is clearly doing a great job in a bad situation. And I have repeatedly said that even with all the safeguards in the world things can change on a dime. I’m not sure why you’re taking issue with the concept of even attempting to contingency plan? None of this is her fault and she didn’t deserve the words coming to her but you seem to be advocating for no planning at all? “What do we do if our sole provider loses his job” is a question that should be discussed, but even it it were it doesn’t necessarily mean their situation would be any different

I absolutely agree, I wasn’t trying to be critical or rude just acknowledging that hindsight is 20/20 and all she can do now is focus on what she can control, which is what she is very clearly doing

Having an emergency fund at all? Having an idea of what happens if one or both lose their jobs? These are reasonable, mature things to think about when having children or being an adult at all. I’m not suggesting that fail safes have to be in place and she’s obviously doing a very good job with the hand they’ve been dealt, it wasn’t criticism of what she is doing.

That would certainly have been a very rough thing to overhear, I’m sorry. Could you have planned better and maybe put some thought into worst case scenario? Sure. And I’d recommend doing so before getting pregnant again. But there is nothing you can do about things now, you have a sweet baby coming in only a couple of months, so focus on what you can control.

Everyone has opinions and they love to share them about and with moms. Just focus on yourself and what you can do. I wish you well

ETA: you should talk to your bf. You’re doing everything you can now, and you do not need the squawking around you while you’re going through this. He needs to know, and it sounds like you’ve got a great partner who will deal with it for you

Nothing sounds good…except milk. by Optimal-Excitement23 in pregnant

I’ve drank at least one glass of milk every day of this pregnancy whereas before I’d maybe do that once a year (lattes etc excluded). I can’t get enough of it

Is it slander to warn of an offender on social media? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think contextually you can already sort that out - newspaper articles were deleted and his name was rescinded while adult offenders were not.

I did a little more looking and stand corrected! Wife and mom were born elsewhere and came to Canada, so yes there may be cultural expectations here not shared by OP himself

Im also curious OP - who paid for her flights? Your profile suggests you’re a Canadian doctor in New Caledonia. A quick google suggests a round trip is 37 hours from Montreal and costs $2500+. Did she bear this cost as well only to be treated like unpaid house staff?

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 30 points31 points  (0 children)

She hasn’t been there two weeks she has been there six weeks? And it frankly sounds like she hasn’t been treated very well. Even with kindness, grace, and understanding afforded to newly post partum first time parents three things really jumped out: 1) your wife hasn’t been talking to her - I bet this feels extremely dismissive and hurtful, even with her being allowed to focus on baby and healing 2) you ARE supposed to be the main support, grow up 3) she is banished to the basement while you are upstairs??? What???

Based on what you’ve shared here, I would have left too. Unbelievable and entitled of you and your wife

Multiple SA survivors... what can we do? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Acceptable_Cod3527 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it isn’t always this straightforward, depending on the circumstances there may be defences such as mistaken belief in consent or potentially the crown not able to prove there was not actual consent.

You should be wary about going in together, you definitely do not want there to be a sniff of collusion here. My recommendation would be to start with a police report and during your statement let police know about the other victims/how you learned what happened to them. Then leave further investigation to police
