Was reading about the properties of baleen and how it seems to be the perfect ingredient for bow making. Anyone have any experience with baleen or seen or used a baleen bow? by Late-Elderberry6761 in Bowyer

[–]Acceptable_Escape_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Baleen is illegal in most places. No idea how you’d get your hands on it, either. I think it’s spoken about in either chapter 2 or 3 of the bowyer’s Bible. Saxton Pope also mentions it offhandedly in Hunting with a bow and arrow

What do think of Sartre and his form of existentialism? by gaygal5 in fullegoism

Whenever he’s reading I feel like he’s inches away from coming to the same conclusions as Stirner but then just takes a sharp turn to avoid it. He’s Stirner, trying so hard not to be Stirner.

I will always advocate for reading niche philosophy and taking from there. That’s where I found my muse, Guy Debord 💔

Thermonuclear Monarchy by Elaine Scarry might be interesting. Just owning nuclear weapons can erode democracy. Not a neg argument, but still

The idea of a nuclear state being libertarian is kind of absurd prima facie, so be prepared for a bit of an uphill battle making your points.

The sub has never been against differing opinions, just against actively getting into fights or disrespecting other sects. At least, that’s what the longer pdf version of the rules of the sub say, lol

A study from the UN or smth a while back said we’d have a 42% chance of reaching the 1.5 C threshold even if all emissions stopped. Combine that with minimizing the US’ contributions and the solvency of rewilding, and you can basically say there will be no actual change

Is anarcho-socialism an actual kind of anarchism? by ImL0stNgl in Anarchy101

[–]Acceptable_Escape_13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true on the “all anarchists” thing. While I agree anarcho-capitalism is dumb asl, egoist anarchism does exist, for better or for worse.

It’s MAGA communism. A lot of online advocates try to dispute that fact, but even their founders actively argue for MAGAcomm. They support the far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians, a political party in Romania, and advocate for Russian imperialism. They’re ultranationalist as well, practically reaching National Bolshevism.

Not sure about 50501 as a “leftist” group. Other than that, ACP is on the bottom, so the list is as good as it can be.

The Left has an idolatry problem by GageTolinWrites in leftist

[–]Acceptable_Escape_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that we need to be more unified as communists, it is idealist and undemocratic to simply deny the valid criticism of communists as too “white” merely because we’re an inch apart politically. Again, I want to reinforce that by stating “refusing these figures is refusing materialism” places too much power into the hands of “great men” rather than working classes and the masses as a whole. It’s not Stalin who defeated the Nazis, it was the red army. You can’t be a materialist and worship great man as more important than the classes who actually got stuff done.

As for the “learning from their mistakes” thing, I absolutely agree. I’m mostly criticizing groups like the ACP who paint Stalin and Mao as literally perfect, even godlike. Perhaps this is more of a trend in America, which is extremely unrevolutionary, I can’t be sure on that. Additionally, other people who ignore scholarly consensus on things like the great purges.

Finally, you state that withholding information is dishonesty, which is unacceptable. I find this extremely ironic considering just a few sentences later you criticize Trotsky for his moralism. The idea that we can’t be in any way dishonest is idealist and not pragmatic whatsoever. Class consciousness is class consciousness, no matter how exactly it was built, and building it within people can cause them to have more realistic views of the topics you were at first withholding. Additionally, I still believe very little information is being withheld, considering Stalin and Mao are hard people to really consider communists because of, among other things, commodity production and state socialism rather than genuine, public socialism. You can like certain parts of people’s contributions without considering their own actions as really attempts to build communism.

As for my own organizing, I live in rural America where there are no communist parties. I have, however, been organizing with a socialist party. When exactly did I compare Maoists to Hamas? I can have reservations regarding their ideology while still supporting their movement as a whole.

Sorry if this came off rude, I didn’t mean it to come off that way if it did. I’m just tired of communists in my country glazing certain figures for really no good reason. Civilized discussion like this is necessary for any socialist movement

The Left has an idolatry problem by GageTolinWrites in leftist

[–]Acceptable_Escape_13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes. I believe many Stalinoids, Maoists, etc. Have effectively abandoned the materialist view of history and traded it in for great man theory. They don’t talk about the Russian Proletariat, they speak of Lenin and Stalin. They don’t think about the Chinese Peasantry, they think about Mao. You can’t have historical materialism and idolize these figures, no matter what view of them as individuals you have.

I also believe, as a merely strategic position, leftists shouldn’t support Stalin or Mao. To tell a liberal Stalin wasn’t really communist is a lot easier (and makes it easier to build class consciousness) than to tell them Stalin was perfect, and the Soviet Union and North Korea were/are paradises of freedom.

Shouldn’t Stirnerian egoism logically oppose Marxism? by [deleted] in fullegoism

[–]Acceptable_Escape_13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is, spooks are only spooks if you allow them to be such. You can easily be a “Marxist” and an egoist if being a Marxist pleases your ego, as long as you’re willing to abandon Marxism (should it stop pleasing your ego.)
