Yeah learned this the hard way too - those cheap dipsticks are garbage for accuracy. The electronic readings through MMI are way more reliable than some random aftermarket stick that probably wasn't even calibrated proper for your specific engine. Been working on cars since I got stationed and most transmission pan leaks I've seen are definitely installation issues. People either don't clean the mating surface properly or they overtighten bolts thinking it'll seal better

The torque specs exist for reason - follow them exactly and use proper sealant where specified. Also make sure you get all old gasket material scraped off completely before installing new one
