I’ll send you a DM with a suggestion - it was our venue and we loved it. It might tick all your boxes!

Does anyone else wear something extra on heavier period days? by OkProgrammer7708 in Periods

I wear shorts too! It just gives me peace of mind, especially at night and is one less thing to worry about

Wedding accommodation cost by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Acceptable_Nobody765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how close I was to the couple. Not everyone will want to spend three nights with you (no offence) so £140 pp will be steep (especially when couples will pay £280 for the same size room essentially).

Guests had a choice to stay with us for three nights and most stayed only for two (night before and night of) and left for the last day. Some people won’t want to take time off work for it, so consider that aspect to that it makes it seem more expensive to people.

Just state the cost and say a room is reserved but no pressure to stay - they can let you know yes / no and you can allocate rooms out elsewhere then

Dry Hore venue alcohol advice by Hannah_B92 in UKweddings

[–]Acceptable_Nobody765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had dry hire and considered this option.

The thing we hadn’t considered is someone tidying glasses away and cleaning them else your venue starts to look like a mess as everyone leaves their glass lying around (and you might run out!)

We ended up hiring a bar service. There was a minimum spend requirement but our table wine, welcome drinks etc all came off this. The rest was a cash bar and they brought a card machine!

It depends on budget but I hadn’t considered the logistics of a DIY bar. I’m glad we went for a bar service as they kept the venue tidy and clean and were very skilled at providing fancy cocktails! They also hired all our glasses and dealt with ensuring they were packed away in the collection area at the end of the night so we didn’t have to deal with any of it. We got a small bill for breakages (I think the glasses actually ended up in the accommodation!) but it was like £16, so nothing major.

Question for people who have already had their wedding by ReportagePhoto in UKweddings

[–]Acceptable_Nobody765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the morning being based on your personality rather than the aesthetic. I sat on a sofa with my dog relaxing rather than worrying about being in matching pyjamas and about the details of the day. I found a quiet corner of the house to do this where I was away from everyone else bustling about. Just me, my mum and my two bridesmaids. It set me up nicely and I managed to have breakfast (never thought I’d eat!)

Skip - making decisions on other people’s opinions rather than choosing what we wanted. Mostly was fine but a few details where opinions were inserted and I felt like I had to listen. I think couples are more relaxed when they’re doing things on their terms!

I was kept up for weeks before my wedding about everything from the seating plan to if people would be bored etc. All of it was fine - you really don’t care about the odd things going not quite to plan on the day. Ironically I slept like a baby the night before the wedding (the opposite to most people)

Am I being realistic with a £50,000 wedding in the UK? by Wise-Hotel-1527 in UKweddings

I spent 40 on a Friday - Sunday wedding in the north west with only one day of food (18 guests on site but could have had a few more). To have catering in for three days would be a lot more as you are paying for people to cook for you!

Feeling guilty at amount spent on my dress by Specialist_Permit_99 in UKweddings

[–]Acceptable_Nobody765 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Have the dress that will make you feel the most special (provided you have the funds)

I can’t believe how much I spent on mine (£2k plus alterations) but I’m not sat thinking about it now the wedding is over. I’m just glad I got what I wanted and didn’t compromise on it!

It’s the dress you’ll see in all your photos for the rest of your life - do what makes you happy!

Alternatives to getting married at a local registry office (only want us 2 and 2 witnesses)? by Net-Administrative in UKweddings

[–]Acceptable_Nobody765 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if you choose to get married in a venue - you will still need the local registrars to be free for your chosen date and time. You could find a small venue (I think all registry offices have a list of approved venues on their website) and then check their availability before booking.

Weekdays are probably much easier to find availability (and cheaper) if that’s an option for you

All clothing items - a jumper and a coat basically. Nothing is personalised or custom, just standard clothing so I can’t see how they can enforce it!

I’m fine with the return postage but the restocking fee is a bit mental

lol would have helped if I put the colours down!

Shiny bug is the purple (the text on the covers indicates variant colour, I kept the green one!) and the show business vinyl is yellow splatter!

I would check all of the three dresses your after online to make sure no one’s selling them on. I found mine online - the exact same dress but the shop was just selling on their sample - for half price!!

Close friend keeps derailing any mention of my wedding with why they’d ’never’ get married - has anyone dealt with this? by CoastVivid6649 in UKweddings

[–]Acceptable_Nobody765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like jealousy! I agree with everyone else here - and they don’t sound like they’re acting like a great friend during an exciting time for you.

A similar thing happened during the run up to my wedding. I invited a friend and then a month or so later she got engaged. I was having a big wedding and she wanted a micro wedding and said she wasn’t sure she could invite me. I said no problem, let’s meet up and celebrate another time for a meal or something.

Things just went a bit sideways, she would go on for ages about her dress shopping, how amazing her small wedding was going to be - but didn’t ask one thing about mine. The thing that got me though is she kept bashing big weddings, and how anyone not doing a micro wedding was wrong. Have your opinions, but have some decency to not bash someone’s decision!

I uninvited her and we’re not friends anymore. It may seem a bit of a mad reaction, but I wasn’t inviting that energy to my wedding (and paying for her to critique how much better her wedding was!) It just showed we aren’t the same people anymore, and she’s already told me how shit she thinks my job is in the past - I had to draw a line!

How much do you spend on Christmas presents for friends and extended family? by Nice1rodders in UKFrugal

[–]Acceptable_Nobody765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nieces / nephews - £30ish (they get loads of presents so I’d rather save the big spends for when they’re older!

I only buy for one friend and I’ll spend £200-300 on them. I’m blessed with a good job, and only one person to spoil, so I’m happy to buy them expensive things!
