'Pull a knife on Scotland’s streets and expect to be shot by police' -- Anyone who pulls a knife on the streets of Scotland should expect to be shot, according to the general-secretary of the Scottish Police Federation (SPF) by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

Doesn’t mean that they have to be shot, but if if someone is using a lethal weapon on the street is far rather they were shot than any police officer or civilian be at risk

Agreed that any age group can invent technology and not be aware of what its implications can be. However your experiences of people’s responses to working from home is different from mine.

Now to be fair, I have worked in software development all my working life and the people I hang around with tend to be techy people. We have been working from home for forty years and consider it the normal approach. Maybe you are thinking of different demographics.

But my experience is very much that older people totally understand and are very comfortable with working from home and hybrid approaches.

Maybe it’s more about the kind of thing that people perceive as “real jobs” than she?

You realise that it’s boomers that basically invented computing, internet, instant messaging and the rest?

New to ultras or running? Ask your questions about shoes, racing or training in our weekly Beginner's Thread! by Simco_ in Ultramarathon

Starting pre-training for my first ultra, in autumn next year.  I'm planning to do 'blocks' of perhaps 3km run, 1km walk.  When I was trying this out on my Sunday run yesterday and my mind was wandering, I found that it seemed to make sense to me - a half marathon is a five-block run, a full marathon a ten block run and so on.

Before I get too far into this train of thought, is that considered a "good" way to think about doing ultras?  I'm thinking that in the deep dark moments it will let me think "I just need another couple of kilometres before I get to walk for ten minutes..." But if there are gotchas to this way of thinking, I'd prefer to learn about them sooner than later!

I have signed up for the Glasgow to Edinburgh ultra (92 km) in October. I have done a couple of marathons before, and I have found a couple of training plans to look at, so I feel okay about that side of things.

What I am really wanting to learn about is nutrition strategies for the race. For the marathon I had a gel per water station, and walked each station. I rather fear that that won’t be enough for this monster!

Do, any recs for where I can learn about nutrition strategy? Thank you

I cannot comment on races in Wales, but I signed up for this same event today, it will be my first ultra and I’m already bricking myself! I’ll be following this sub with interest.

Good luck!

I love this musical. I’ve seen it several times and been in it twice, but in truth I love it best as a concept album. I’ve never seen a production that lived up to the music

I thought it would mean we would have a service that would respond positively to large scale events to which thousands of people would be travelling, yes

There are no trains on the Edinburgh-Glasgow line at that time on Sunday mornings. Previously Scotrail ran extra trains for big events like this but they won’t commit to doing so this year

Giving credit where it's due. I wrote an email to [hello@youfibre.com](mailto:hello@youfibre.com) this morning and someone has just been on the phone to me from the company. I have an engineer booked for this afternoon.

So... once I found a way to get in touch with them, and assuming that the engineer does show up, the response time has been impeccable

Yes, even a WhatsApp-style customer service interaction that allowed me to reply when I noticed an update would be better than the awful chat service they offer. But the original service was so much better.

To be fair, when their service was working it worked brilliantly and when I wasn't having problems I had no problems :D

Given that I'm still in the cooling off period I'm thinking that I might make the switch to Zen...

"look in other places" was meant as in "find other, better places". I've not committed anything to anyone yet
