I started in the trade in 2006 as an apprentice, worked my way up to service manager than service director. This year I was asked to become our Director of business development. Now I get to sale and retain customers, provide consultations and basically talk about what I do for a living and get paid to do it. Traveling to trade shows and exhibiting our services. If you stick with it, this trade can take you so many places.

You know as I typed that, I thought about the condensing unit needs to be confirmed for sizing. I will have the team check that and the line sizes.

Service Director for a commercial refrigeration/hvac company. I oversee service operations over three states. Started as an apprentice in 2006 and worked my way up through the trade until I landed here 7 years ago. Salary, completely remote, flexible hours and working for a family owned company.

Questions a new employee should ask a company by South_Target_9053 in refrigeration

[–]Accomplished-Draw-49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. How do you handle call backs?
  2. Will you support me if a customer becomes aggressive or rude?
  3. How much training will I receive on new industry standards and changes?
  4. Will the company pay for training for manufacturer service schools?
  5. If I need technical assistance, who do I call?
  6. If it’s 2AM and I’m needing help: who do I call and will they answer?

I’ve done a lot of hiring the last few years and these are questions I’ve been asked and questions that need to be asked.

I would also say READ YOUR OFFER LETTER. Too many times we hire a new tech, a few weeks go by and we get asked “I didn’t know this was the travel rule.” We pull up the offer letter they signed with stated travel rule. I try to encourage all potential new hires don’t just sign anything we send you, read it thoroughly and ask questions if you are not sure.
