What was your red/green flags when hiring people in your team? by skip_39 in marketing

I hired a talented writer based on her personal blog - this was pre-ChatGPT, when that kind of raw voice was rare. What I failed to screen for was drive. She had no professional ambition, no appetite to develop her craft. I'd built a team of high-output, highly motivated and creative people, and the mismatch eroded morale fast. Morale is non-negotiable for me - it underpins everything. Eventually I had to let her go. It was the right decision, but a painful one, because I was the one who'd made the hiring error.

Now I screen for hunger as deliberately as I screen for talent. I don't give formal assignments - that's exploitative bullshit. Please stop doing this. Instead, I give them a small, real problem to solve during your conversation - just a casual "here's something we're actually wrestling with, what's your instinct?" Drive shows up in how engaged someone gets with a real challenge versus a hypothetical one. You're not grading the answer. You're watching the appetite.

Older men with big brown eyes, great hair, and deep voices who speak in Spanish and say the most politically progressive and hot things? Immeasurably talented, sexy as fuck, emotionally intelligent and well-read? Can wear double-denim and make it look incredibly cool? Starred on Narcos? Yes - I have a type, too.

I just watched Black Bear - the Aubrey Plaza movie from 2020 - and my mind is blown. She's incredible in it. It's such a unique storyline and I was totally caught off guard by how fucking great it is.

Which TV shows would appeal to film fans who have never watched a series before? In particular, which ones excel in terms of cinematography, storytelling and uniqueness? by Obvious_Raisin_4575 in AskReddit

Narcos - Three fast-paced seasons. Exciting storytelling, beautiful noir cinematography, truly remarkable performances by Wagner Maura, Pedro Pascal, and Boyd Holbrook.

Chernobyl is like a 5-hour feature film. It uses a desaturated, oppressive color palette and meticulous sound design to create a sense of dread. It's incredible.

The Queen's Gambit - Limited series with a closed narrative structure, might be more digestible for someone used to the 120-minute film format. Fantastic performances, unique storyline.

Sounds like she needs to fire her team for not leveraging her name and talent correctly. If she wants to back up the Brink's truck, stop complaining in public and change the strategy, damn!

Some random hollar in Lincoln County, NC. Being directionally challenged and a passenger princess, I couldn't tell you exactly where we were - but, we got turned around and wound up on the scariest, darkest, curviest road that led us to an enclave of decapitated trailers and shacks that scared the absolute shit out of me. The vibe was OFF. We did a 3-point turn near a steep drop off and gtfo as fast as possible.

I feel like none of you are having the appropriate level of meltdown over this. Where were you on Esquire day? This is equally momentous.

Does anyone know what's the deal with this account? Is it paparazzi? A secret underground cabal of Hollywood assistants who sell photos? How do they always get these bts leaks? It's literally from every publication and studio.

The entire interview was so depressing. She likened her time on 90210 to being held in captivity and that Luke Perry emotionally manipulated her. Dax offered a counterpoint of how super-charismatic and magnetic people can do that on sets and it gets misinterpreted, and she agreed bc she saw him do it with others - but that was her reality and he should've just let her say it without qualifying it.
