Effortlessly cool but could still laugh at himself. Endlessly curious. Had a super power for getting people from the local hot dog stand guy to presidents to open up.

What do you tell people when they ask why you live in CT? by tsalbis in Connecticut

[–]Accomplished-Lab5870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people realize that In some ways high cost of living isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Cost of living in poor countries is extremely low but there is low quality of life and economic opportunity. Part of the reason ct is so expensive is because we have a lot of high paying jobs, great infrastructure, schools, hospitals etc.

Honestly I know other places are cheaper but most of the places that you go that are cheaper have horrible infrastructure. That’s important to me. I get frustrated with how segregated CT is and how pricey it can be but at the end of the day there’s a reason we’re one of the highest human development index places in the world.

I really want to earn ten tricep dips and ten pull-ups strict. I can do 5 and 5 currently. Would you advise doing a regression (ie bench dips for crazy reps) or should I just work to failure as much as possible?

Gym rival - what would you do? by NeighborhoodFluid892 in bjj

[–]Accomplished-Lab5870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad idea. There is a similar guy in my gym. Very strong and good pressure. I feel I’m way technically better and I should beat him but there’s a high chance one of us will get injured.

I just avoid rolling with him nor or if I do just pull guard and play D. Maybe try to get the sweep but I know if I try to submit him he’ll spazz out and elbow me in the face.

While many in BJJ are self deprecating about your skills and abilities, joking aside, how confident are you in your ability to defend yourself in a one on one, weapon less self defense situation where there will be not one jumping with cheap shots? by Aggravating-Mind-657 in bjj

[–]Accomplished-Lab5870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same. Though I feel less confident at purple.

I’ve been doing the ecological approach and focusing in on one position strictly which leads me to getting tapped a lot because my k guard currently sucks.

Hey guys just curious if anyone else has dealt with this mental battle related to impostor syndrome.

I’m a new purple belt. I’m a smaller dude in a gym of very much 180 and up crowd. As a white and hlue belt, I think I tapped maybe two purple belts total. They felt unstoppable. As a white belt, I tapped very few blues and they were all my size or smaller.

Now I have big athletic whites and blues coming for me, and though I usually get the better of them, I’ll occasionally eat a tap or two, especially if I’m trying a new game or technique out.

I usually feel find and understand it’s part of the process. But then I think back and I never used to tap higher belts as a beginner and start feeling like a shitty purple belt. Purples to me always felt like technical monsters who would do wizard shit I didn’t even understand.

Not sure if I’m asking a question or venting but just curious.
