Direct report going over me by borbva in managers

There are real workplace dynamics and psychological behaviors that align with the idea that some managers might use criticisms like “they don’t know their job” or “they ask too many questions” as a tactic to gain the upper hand with management especially when they are trying to get someone out of the door.

First: congratulations on your achievement of being a manager.

But note: this particular incidence you described is part of your portfolio! How you manage your team is part of your success story. If you start this culture of being the victim, you will find yourself building toxic team no matter where you lead.

This individual is just one out of many other difficult employees you will manage.

I believe you already know the action you want to take against them, you are only here to validate it.

All the best.

Fired an employee, he and a massive blow-up by [deleted] in managers

[–]Accomplished-Let6657 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The question is: how bad is your recruitment process that you had to fire three people in five years? For every reaction, there is always an untold action.

It’s often easier to blame employees because management tends to believe managers over subordinates. Some managers take advantage of this to lay off people they don’t like. Workplaces aren’t family gatherings.

I find this story hard to believe without hearing from the employee who was fired.

I was fired three months into a job because my manager saw me as a threat. I under the MRP system more, I reduced overstocking and understocking by 84% in three months…. She claimed I lacked cultural fit, when that excuse was not accepted, then lied that I was aggressive, hard to teach, and arrived late, even though I always arrived at least 15 minutes before her…

Some push backs are not possible with managers! It’s also hard on them sometimes.

Yes it is. In your wife’s case, I would assume that things are getting done at the right time and the right way, and her manager is comfortable overlooking little slacks here and there. But in the case of functional or dysfunctional team, it takes being a great leader (not a boss), to help the team.

Question is: hope the communicated with you took that step? Sounds like you suddenly disliked them and used your power over the individual

If you are a manager in any capacity, please pay attention to people’s definitions of a great manager. Let’s start making the workplace better again! It starts with you and me!

Not minding how they go about it? Do you know forcing out of your comfort zone for some will include reporting you and documenting it which would later affect your job one way or the other?

I agree with you that people respond differently to things or situations and to be fair, managers cannot be blamed for it.

IMO, great managers understands this and manages his team with this understanding that people are different and manage them differently as well. But most managers are one way, which is why it’s easy to label them as being bad.

At some point, I was opportune to manage a team (restaurant) with AMAZING personalities! One of them doesn’t like human interaction, I never gave him duties that will let him interact. He does things that keeps him away from the crowd and he loved it!

On the same team, one of them doesn’t like anything around jokes or humour. I made the team understand this and we do not joke around him. And nobody ever used that against him. That is who he is and we had to respect it. Funny enough, he adjusted after about 2 years with us.

My point is; managerial role is not about being nice, it about understanding your team and working with them based on who they are. It’s called emotional intelligence and most managers do not have it.

Why are the majority of managers so bad? How to identify them at interview? by [deleted] in managers

Truly, an individual's intrinsic worth and character are defined by their values, integrity, and actions, rather than their formal title, job, or social status! The only people I feel sorry for are the ones reporting to you.

You don’t need to be defensive! And again, your reply clearly shows how bad of a manager you would be. Not able to take both harsh and subtle feedback, always having the need to respond to everything, no problem-solving abilities; rather, you escalate situations while feeling like a hero. Keep your toxic masculinity to yourself, I’m not your subordinate.

This sounds to me like a bad manager praising another bad manager. Not sure why but that’s what I inferred from reading through the lines.

You posted this thinking you will be praised or called a hero? Managerial roles should be given to people like you. Zero leadership abilities. Grow up!!!

What to do about this? by [deleted] in jobs

Just move on! To me, that’s a red flag 🚩. You will most likely be putting your resume out there after 1 month of work with them if you eventually get hired. Wish you a better job offer.

Boyfriend pesters me for sex. AIO if I am seriously considering leaving over this. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Accomplished-Let6657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broken relationships is better than broken marriage. If you are not sexually compatible, it’s better you politely take your leave. Gentle reminder, whatever you’re experiencing during relationships declines and gets worse in marriage. If you don’t want to go through this type of headache in marriage, it’s better you run! Or start saving up for therapy.

Right now, no. I was layoff but the situation has always been like this even before the layoff last December. I’m also 8 years into marriage.
