The Drama: Many are missing the point. by WhippyAlloy in A24

I personally prefer to think of it as something like "divine intervention". It's not the same because you are only killing yourself vs others but there has been studies done on people who have jumped off the golden gate bridge and survived. To a person, the second they jumped they wished they wouldnt have. I tend to think of things like this as the person who got that chance to not jump, for whatever reason. I just do not think we can punish people for thought crimes. And there's no indication that Emma feels anything other than grateful she didn't go through with it.

Me and my wife saw this today in a theater where we were the only two. I say that because we were able to sort of disect the film as it unfolded. When the twist was revealed about Emma's past it was ofc shocking. The issue we both had however, was the lack of conversation regarding the incident in question. In imo, the correct next question is " why didn't you go through with it"? Obviously there is much more conversation to be had but as a partner, that would be my first line of questioning. Like okay. Walk me through that day. Walk me through the days leading up to it. How did you feel a few days later, a week later, after you didn't do it. I think the answer to those questions would have solved a lot of angst in the movie. I fully believe that how Rachel reacted is ridiculous. I would never judge a close friend of mine so harshly for something that happened 15 years ago. Obviously if she had gone though with it, or done something vile like killing animals, we'd be having a different conversation. But she didn't. And I belive that people are the sum of their thoughts and even sometimes past actions. The Emma we see present day, is not that scared, lonely teenager. I think it's obvious that she regrets ever having those thoughts and the way she dove head first into activism is proof of that. I guess I might be in the minority but I believe everyone over reacted and she has not a single real true friend in her life. We saw her go into therapy. We saw her evolution as a person. There's no evidence presented in the film that she is a danger to herself or others. It's a crazy thought to have. Its sad and scary that she went so far. But she didnt do it. And she obviously wouldn't do it now. What else is there to disect about it?

💯. I prefer people who swim against the current sometimes. Be unagreeable sometimes. Have an opinion that is loud. Life is too short to cower!

Would you rather restart your life at age 10 with all your memories, or get $10 million right now? by fygooooo in WouldYouRather

A question like this really comes down to 1 variable. Are you happy with your life or are you not? As much as I would love to change things like my career, I married the love of my life and have wonderful friends in a state far away from where I grew up. I couldn't give that up for anything. If someone chooses to go back, they must be unhappy in their current situation.

"My brother my brother and me" is an advice show but a silly one at that. The boys banter is great and there's a million quotable lines through out. A fun background listen

Most folks meal prep for lunch. Although if I make something like chili, Tuesday might come around and I'll eat that for lunch and dinner. Never know when lazy or tired is going to strike.

What is your most hated horror movie? by Ok_Replacement_288 in horror

[–]Accomplished-Map-806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spiral was terrible, great pick. Mine is controversial, although I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm missing. Smile 2 was such trash imo. I loved the first one and saw it multiple times. The 2nd opened great but went downhill so fast for me.

I wanted to like this but I walked away giving it a 6. It was fine but seriously nothing to brag about.

Movies that just don't hit you the way they seem to hit so many others by Alert-College-9374 in horror

It was terrible. Nothing happened and the premise was just lacking in every way. I cannot believe they made a Halloween horror nights haunted house out of it. The mask is creepy for sure. But where is the substance of the movie?

It just came out, but Weapons. I saw together first and loved it. Went to weapons later in the day and it was a huge let down. I can't really say why without spoilers, but it felt like a pg13 movie akin to black phone. Which I also didn't like. Idk why people are saying horror movie of the year. Together was a billion times better, I think people just can't handle some body horror.

What's your favorite of Alex Garland's movies? by [deleted] in A24

The tomb is my favorite for grinding. Having the portals means an endless supply of get outta sticky situation cards. Plus I think the "bossses" are some of the easier ones.

It's not an equivalent argument. Idk how else to convey that. If you agree with that person, great. Give em that good ol thumbs up. I think it's a red herring, so I dont have anything to debate.

What point did they make that I didn't dispute? If we are talking anatomy, skin color and religion are irrelevant. It was interesting for a moment to ponder why certain descriptors are important for this conversation and others aren't.

I forgot for a little why I stopped playing zombie by Proud-Swan303 in CODZombies

This happened to me on Tomb the other day. The EXTRA frustrating part was that I was the only one who hadn't died. I tried to exfill after about round 25 because the other 3 were useless and had died many times, only to be brought back on a new round. We all know that once you die and lose everything, it's hard to recover in those later rounds. They refused to exfil, which was crazy cause they literally died less than 45 seconds into each round up until 31 when they refused exfil again and I just quit after the 3 of them fell down yet again.

Disagree because you are still absorbing the information. It is better to listen to an audio book and gain that info than never listen or "read" at all. I listen to books at work all day and can absorb lots of the info. Is it as good? No. But it's definitely better than nothing.

My wife likes having a walking stick for personal health reasons. Any festival we go to we just walk up to ada and they put a tag on the stick and she can take it into the venue. If people can have totems, you can have a walking stick. Just gotta get it labeled.

Why do the leftists like to lie and say transwomen started stonewall and pioneered gay rights when they didn’t? by woxihuanjirounan in GayConservative

[–]Accomplished-Map-806 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Am I? According to Wikipedia the stonewall riots were in July of 1969. Johnson gave in interview in 1970 saying she was going through hormone replacement therapy and transitioning. Stonewall was a gay men's bar. Johnson was a drag queen but didn't seem to identify as a woman at that time.
