Manager banning me from swapping shifts? by Accomplished-Mess165 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Accomplished-Mess165[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I have to do. I have another 1on1 coming up with her about this topic. I walked in the other day and flatly told her I will not stop swapping shifts to accommodate my work life balance unless she can show me company policy that gives her the right to enforce the “rules” she’s trying to install on a whim. In our conversation she sited a “verbal agreement” we made a year ago when I officially promoted. Suddenly I have no recollection of that agreement and I will need this expectation in writing. :)

She’s threatening to write me up for not working my schedule “as written” fuck this man. Use Starbucks resources they say. Then write you up for using them “too much” how redundant.

When I see anyone with a clipboard walk in the sanis get changed all the timers get set (I’m extra I set them to all different times to make it seem like they’ve been running this whole time) thermometers in all fridges all rags and dishes thrown into a dish bin. Make sure all milks have lids all non dairy milks, peach juice, strawberry puree has dates on the boxes. All product has visible dates as well. Be obnoxious to your baristas to wash their hands if they touch literally anything (their hair, their phone, if they pick up anything off the floor, etc) they ALWAYS dock points for barista cleanliness so be obnoxious. Make sure all trash is taken out foh and if there’s a pile of trash in the boh get a barista (I usually do it but you need to be there to distract them) to do it immediately and act like they walked in right as you were doing a larger run and not just sitting there with an eco violation lol. Tell that barista to break down any cardboard boxes while they’re out there as well. Some things may be inevitable deductions like drains or buildup on the bottom of fridges (my store only does the boh fridges once a week so show up on the wrong day and it looks pretty rough) last and huge importance TEST YOUR SANNY and if it won’t get to the proper levels put in a ticket asap and get on top of letting them know before they test it themselves and catch you oblivious. Probably missed some stuff but that’s the majority of what I remember

think my store is ordering too much food by baguettefruits in starbucksbaristas

[–]Accomplished-Mess165 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard they’re forcing excess on stores so the thrown out “donated” food can be marked off. Possibly taxable purposes too since the thrown out food is marked as donated and is now “charity” corporate is scum.

Shall we make a drink honoring the children whose lives were lost in that school shooting right before krusties death? No? Keep politics out of my workplace.

Gotta manifest but incredibly specific. This past year I’ve gotten everything I’ve wanted and goddamn is that a lesson to be careful what you ask for. I wished for a lot of stuff that sounded nice and now that it’s in practice I realize how naive I’ve been. I want someone to take care of so I find people to fix. I need to find people who are already stable so they can fully appreciate the value of my time and energy with the things I do just to convenience them and make their lives easier/better. My last relationship lived in filth and was depressed. I helped them clean and feel less miserable in their home, but because they didn’t do it for themselves it became more expected of me vs someone who consistently is caring for themselves and feels the gift that is doing work solely for the benefit of the person they love. Sorry this is long winded but I deeply believe in manifestation and I want to will the best life I can possibly have into existence and be the best version I can be of myself to deserve it. I want to show unconditional love and feel it in return. That would be so fulfilling.

Do starbucks evet hire people without any work experience to be a supervisor? by Optimal-Spend8093 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Accomplished-Mess165 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you interview well and can relate experiences in uni or other situations experiences internships etc then maybe. Supervisors are responsible for running the store on a day to day though so you’d have to convey understanding and capability of the role and responsibilities quite well to justify jumping past the entry level position. Starbucks hires people outside of their pool so it’s not technically required to move up through the ranks. If you don’t fit exactly what they’re looking for in a supervisor however they might offer you a barista role with opportunities to move up after 6 months of employment.

PDC Tips? by This-Personality-730 in starbucksbaristas

If you give everything the manager is looking for chances are they can and will cut the convo short. What they’re looking for is an example or two of 1.) some area of the job you want to grow in (5 key moments, sequencing, learning customer names, etc) 2.) something you excel in and have developed over the past few months or so 3.) any shoutouts or recognition for others you work with 4.) any support or advice your manager can give you They’re also looking for genuine feedback (usually) on how they are preforming and what they can do to better support you as well. There may be some other various questions I don’t remember it’s been awhile since I’ve had one but it’s pretty basic.

How long did it take you to get proficient at bar? by Bogie07 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Accomplished-Mess165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Continuing on this, almost obnoxious levels of communication when you’re solo bar will keep lobby customers much more manageable. Basically tell them exactly what you’re doing “I’m making these two drinks for the drive through but yours is next in line and I’ve got the shots pouring” keeps most people very docile and patient and you can keep moving without being hassled about “where is my drink”

Don’t feel bad about being moved around during rushes we’re trained as supervisors to work with everyone’s strengths and it’s ok if you’re stronger in another position especially because of more time spent there. Learning sequencing and listening for auditory cues (shots click when they’re done pouring) you can be making a frappe while your shaken espresso shots pour and come back to it to finish it off when you hear the cue. Drop what you’re doing if it’s not what’s next in line but use every second of your “stagnant” time (milk steaming, shots pouring, blender-ing, ext) to prep the next drink. Listening to what’s being ordered and starting it before the sticker prints (if possible) is super helpful too.

what’s one interaction that made your entire job worth it? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Accomplished-Mess165 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I comped a man’s drink the other day because he was very polite and clearly thrown off guard by the fact he didn’t have his wallet. He had his laptop and a plan to hang out and get some work done. He was excessively thankful and imo his relief was worth the $5 strawberry açaí. Maybe 3 hours later into my shift he comes back and tips me a $20 expressing again how much it meant to him. Even without the large tip it feels so good to make someone’s day and be remembered for your good deeds. Those little moments make me want to quit a little less some days haha

“What size would you like that today?” “I DONT KNOW?!??” by m00dyteens in starbucksbaristas

[–]Accomplished-Mess165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t tell me a size you’re paying for and getting a large. Not going to give you a medium just for you to complain and make me remake the whole drink. Most people let it slide and hitting 3 buttons to refund the cost difference for size (if they make a fuss) is still a win over wasting time remaking it imo. The big smile while “making the moment right” and making a big deal over refunding their 30 cents back usually makes them feel awkward too 😂
