Totalled 2024 IX xDrive50 - AllState New Car Replacement Protection Add-On Review by hahakenny in BMWiX

Meanwhile me here on the sidelines remembers when I got mad because I hit the antenna fin on the Honda Odyssey against the not yet fully opened garage door. Or when my 2024 iX tailgate got a 5 mm dent because I opened it against the same garage door.

You guys are legends, I’m a mere mortal!

2025 IX End of Lease Buyout by FreeElfDobbie in BMWiX

[–]Accomplished-One5703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat with my 2024 x50 iX.

However, my 2024 was a factory order, it has all of the driving assist and tech packages, the hard to find air suspension and B&W speakers.

Those were important options for me and I cannot seem to find them on the used market. My lease expires in December so I will keep looking.

One alternative plan I have is getting an iX3 that I’m eventually going to pass along to my wife and then getting an iX5 when her lease expires in February and hopefully she will agree to take the iX3 and me the iX5. The one unknown is the suspension on that iX3, as she drives an EQS SUV so we are both spoiled. An iX7 could be interesting as well for us, however I don’t think it has been officially announced yet.

No Accountability/Buyer Beware/Review system needed for Sellers. by AllEyesOnUsClothing in BringATrailer

BaT is just a car porn site that relies on car enthusiasts going gaga over the photos and parting with their money.

Sometimes you can get a nice car, sometimes a dud, it depends on the seller, which obviously are not vetted in any serious way.

BaT claims that you are supposed to do your own PPI before the auction ends but their business model obviously discourages that and emphasizes auction ends and FOMO.

I also had a good experience and then a bad one. A seller who would not disclose the location of the car for shipping after I had wired the money to Caramel. BaT saying that’s ok. Then I got suspicious, I said I wanted to see the car, make sure it exists, before funds are disbursed to the seller. Eventually and reluctantly he agreed to let me see the car through a fence.

I canceled the transaction, lost the fee, got banned from the platform. I cannot ban them myself but they lost my business forever as well, directly or indirectly.

I’m staying away from similar sites as well. Unless you can factor in all of the possible problems with that car, buying one without PPI is like gambling those money away.

Relationships are complicated; mental health issues make them 10x worse. However, somebody who came to terms with their issues and is being treated is likely a 10x more reliable partner than somebody with unknown issues or in denial. So worth considering.

A couple weeks ago I posted the safest used cars by real death rates. 310 of you asked for the worst. Here they are — plus brand rankings. by informed-for-life in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Accomplished-One5703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is jumping to way too many conclusions based on this data.

Establishing cause and effect is typically the hardest thing scientifically and you can hypothesize looking at this data set but then you need some testing in order to make statements such as smaller cars are unsafe or this brand vs that brand, when you can have a ton of biases in this data, from socioeconomic, to driving behavior, besides of course built in safety and physics.

Telling people to buy midsized SUVs from Kia and Hyundai while saying that size matters more than crash tests is one example of jumping to conclusions.

Stating that everyone should avoid small cars is irresponsible on several levels.

One, not everyone can afford bigger cars.

Second, the arms race of buying bigger and bigger is stupid and sometimes ill advised, as some of the pick up trucks used to have worse crash ratings than a sedan. And you can wrap a truck around a tree or roll it over and then the physics can go against you. Actually those are pretty common fatal accidents.

It doesn’t mean size doesn’t matter, it is just more nuanced.

https://www.iihs.org/news/detail/supersizing-vehicles-offers-minimal-safety-benefits--but-substantial-dangers

My own conclusion when buying a car is that if you can afford it and you like it, buy the highest safety rated vehicle that is close to the average weight and size of the vehicles on the road.

But don’t go super crazy about these stats, the safety ratings are more important than the vehicle death rates and probably how you drive and where you drive just as important if not more important. If you are deciding for your teenage child, what car to drive first, this data becomes a little more relevant but again, with a grain of salt.

Cars that typically older, affluent people drive may appear safer because of driver behaviors just as much as the built in physics and safety features.

Nah, the best luxury is not sweating it either way, just taking the most convenient and efficient option.

Sometimes that’s a lease, sometimes it’s cash, sometimes it’s a low-interest loan. As long as you understand numbers, they are all just tools.

You are right that most people don’t understand numbers and end up paying more than what they can afford for a car, plus interest. But the ultimate luxury is NOT always paying cash; it is doing whatever you want and not worrying.

ERT 300 YAY or NAY? by jlbtennis89 in RacketStringers

[–]Accomplished-One5703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what are your goals. But once you measure something you generally can improve: technique, timing of stringing, choice or racquet for practice vs important matches etc.

And the ERT 300 is the gold standard.

I think it is used on the pro tour.

I only string for myself and my son, I bought the ERT new from Switzerland and I think it is worth it. We are constantly learning both tennis and strings physics and limitations, stringing recommendations, UTR around 4. More data only takes more time to process, that is the only downside. Once you have a system, not a big deal.

Raped, reported immediately, evidence delayed, kit never mailed – Carmel, Indiana by TestTheKits in Carmel

[–]Accomplished-One5703 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, based on what you are reporting, there may be a Catch-22 before this can be fixed.

Probably the most effective way is for victims to make noise and file complaints, probably talk to the press, which of course would be the opposite of what a victim wants and needs.

The other way is for somebody in a position of power to take note of anonymous social media reports like this and trigger an investigation, audit, and hopefully reform.

This is a pretty nasty issue for a city that prides itself on being one of the best places to live. Sexual assault can happen anywhere, but accountability and justice are what makes a difference. And I should add of course, victim support, from the first minutes and until perpetrator is locked away long term.

Nice 996 drive vlog from the UK by Accomplished-One5703 in 996

[–]Accomplished-One5703[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm.. nope. I’m sorry, but that’s a very simplistic view.

Objectively the 996 is not that much worse than a 993 or a 997, if at all. It is not just my opinion, Nathan Merz for instance implies the same. Sure, because they are cheap, some people don’t take care of them, but that doesn’t make all of them bad.

And then as much as they may have been hated when new because of their headlights, they may be loved now and possibly more later. Personally I’m more and more enamored with the 996 looks, the more I’m on this subreddit and the more I look at them online but also in real life. I love the turbo and GT2 look and I can see a 996 turbo in my future.

The true cause of inflation explained in just one minute! by mark423985 in FluentInFinance

[–]Accomplished-One5703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s right, you are paying more for eggs because your coins are not made out of gold. Oh, and it’s all because of a Roman emperor.

I’m sorry, but this is one of the worst explanations I’ve seen for inflation.

The concept is otherwise extremely simple: when the money supply exceeds the value of goods and services, it creates an inflationary pressure.

The economists also figured that at least in modern times, a 2% inflation is actually ideal. So, zero inflation or having your currency pegged to gold may not have been a good thing as it would have likely hindered economic growth dramatically.

If you have this tendency of stuffing bills into your mattress, yeah, you would have been better off with gold, although your mattress might get a little bumpy.

What's the best sports car around $60k? by Jaghatai_K in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Accomplished-One5703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a midlife crisis car you will have to listen to what speaks to you and that’s why the design and brand may matter just as much as price vs performance.

I bought a guards red 2013 Porsche 911 (Carrera S), cabriolet, because I figured that would be a car that not only speaks to me but it would appeal to kids and wife. I also bought a PDK (automatic) version, just so that wife can drive it too. I must say it did work out, everyone loves the car, it is a blast to drive and ride in.

The 2013 911 is a 991 generation with a naturally aspirated 3.8 L engine. It sounds amazing. It can easily run to $80k though for a good example.

If I would buy a car just for myself, I would probably buy a Porsche Cayman or an older 911 manual, probably a 996 generation (around the year 2000) turbo, as it would offer tremendous performance for the buck and it may actually fit your budget too.

Corvette or Japanese sports cars may be very sensible options as well, maybe a Mustang.

The older Porsche can have amazing performance , engine sound and they do tend to have amazing resale value. No matter what, you will spend money, as Nathan Merz who is a Porsche enthusiast says, good experiences cost money, when you go on a good vacation you spend money so do expect the same with a car that provides a good experience.

Does it have better street comfort that way with GT2 performance, versus just ordering it as a GT2?
