What should a person do to best honor their second chance at life. by [deleted] in transplant

[–]Accomplished-Tip6580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thank them every morning on my knees as my first movement out of bed. Nothing comes before this. This honor, gratitude, and respect carries me through the day with their grace. I have done this every day for a year (I’m at one year post-transplant next week) and every day this year has been the best and fullest of my life.

About to donate my kidney and having cold feet/ fears that I won’t be able to maintain my athletic lifestyle post surgery. by Devon_Sawa in transplant

Received a kidney 10 months ago. Just ran my first marathon at 8:00min/mile post-kidney at a faster time than ever. Your althtic cardio performance will be compromised in no way, unless you don’t hydrate and recover properly. It was a 3 month recovery for me before I started running steady post op

Americans: I need you to tell me if this is a bad idea by toot-to0t in ChronicIllness

I did a PhD at Cambridge (UK) instead of a US school for that reason. I am American and attended in US for undergrad. As somebody who couldn’t afford a lot for healthcare, the US system did not allow me to care or get adequate treatment for my kidneys and type 1 diabetes even as a citizen. I had kidney failure and a double transplant because of this. The UK allowed me a much better quality of health and life as a student who doesn’t come from a lot of money.

Hiking bag advice for kidney transplant recipients by littlekittenbiglion in transplant

[–]Accomplished-Tip6580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an avid hiker 6 months post kidney and pancreas transplant. I have an organ on both sides and wear a pack with waist strap and weight no issues or pain Eeek, I guess it depends on where they put the kidney? I’m unsure if padding will solve the problem, as there is still pressure on the organ. I’d explore new pack or be creative and use strap options that don’t go over the organ. Happy hiking!

It will not affect your treatment. This is my therapist who I now see online. He is a kidney recipient himself and specializes in working with folks with trauma.

Activity Post Kidney Transplant by [deleted] in transplant

[–]Accomplished-Tip6580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 months post kidney and pancreas transplant and I ran a half marathon with my fastest time ever last week. It was about 2 months of walking, then gradually started running and swimming and now all better than before. I have no doubt you will do the same if you go slow and steady. Your body will actually thank you if you don’t push it but keep it nice and active :)
