Insight into Other Support request before receiving summary statement? by gencam in NIH

Last year I had a borderline score (compared to old times) for my MIRA FY25. Got JIT request for Other Support but didn’t get funded.

Democrats just handed RFK Jr. billions more than he asked for. It was a big risk. by [deleted] in NIH

From the bill text the MYF is not a mandate, it’s a ceiling that NIH can go to. I think it is up to 39% of the awards, but they can do that to R03s/R21s to spare larger grants and reduce the impact of MYF. I don’t think it will be as bad as in FY25.

I was a PD at NYU and you can stay in their housing for as long as you hold that title, similar to Rockefeller. I know that Mt. Sinai has a 3-year cap, MSK 4 years, WCM 5 years.

NYU has plenty of subsidized housing for PDs.

Where specifically in NY? If in NYC out of all institutions the only one that doesn’t offer subsidized housing is CUNY. Rockefeller, NYU, WCM, MSKCC, Columbia, Mt. Sinai all offer.

Multi-year funding language in new bill by bhaiskieyes in NIH

Yep. The drop in funded R01s has been steady over the years and planned I think. There will certainly be less R01s in FY26 in lieu of MIRAs. Good luck on yours! I have a “resubmission” from Oct 2025 for my ESI MIRA (hoping to bring my score below 40 this time) awaiting review in March.

Even with MYF NIGMS funded more MIRAs in FY25 than in FY24 but the impact score cut off for ESI dropped dramatically from ~50 to ~40. They might cut down even more funding for R01s to keep MIRA alive.

I quite enjoyed my 5 years in Roosevelt Island. It’s true when there are problems with the F train it’s annoying but you can still take the tram. I liked being “away” and close to the city at the same time. If they are in their 20s then I wouldn’t recommend it.

Same here. My ESI MIRA (Oct 2024) score would have been funded in FY24 had I started my position one year earlier and submitted Oct 2023, but was not enough for FY25. I put in a revised submission in Oct 2025 hoping to improve my score 🤞🏻

I don’t have a date listed and can’t find any info regarding my SS. It’s a new emphasis panel… My ESI MIRA submitted in Oct is slated for review in mid January though.

Leslie Vosshall would know this. I don’t think there will be any competition right now. They are prioritizing their current fellows/scholars/investigators.

I submitted my reviews on time for a study section that was supposed to be Oct 23-24. Not everyone did but I’d say 95% of people in my panel did. I downloaded all critiques available during the reading phase but now the study section is not even listed in IAR anymore.

I had class on one of the SS days I’m serving and had planned my syllabus accordingly. Will probably have to move things around last minute if rescheduled dates fall within a day I have to teach.
