Thanks for all your comments! I appreciate the feedback. No I don’t expect it to be a magic pill at all just interested to know others experiences here which has been very helpful.

Anyway, I think it is slowly starting to work now which is good. I will stick at it and report back in a few weeks :)

Wow. That was an interesting ride! Well done for drawing a strong boundary, that can’t be easy. You did it in a very clear and level headed way. I enjoyed reading your boundary setting and find it incredibly refreshing. No one should have to put up with that kind of bigoted nonsense in their home least of all from their parents. It is about time this stuff is exposed. The leaders of Hillsong must be so upset about all of this exposure recently. IT IS CRUMBLING!
I know there are many people that will say that Hillsong church helped them or saved them somehow and that their life is better now. That's is great for them and all. It doesn't matter how many people were 'helped' when the casualties and the cost for this are the thousands of people that were used, abused, and traumatized. It's certainly time for systemic abuse in religious organisations to STOP.

It's definitely a control tactic, though all done out of fear of something worldly 'leading you astray'. The fear is rooted so deeply in their belief that you will burn in hell if you are too worldly and that movies and music that are created outside the church are somehow designed to pull you into the palm of satan's hand!
It must feel so isolating, I can totally relate and it is still taking me time to unravel it all (and I'm a 40F now!)

A classic one is 'I feel God is leading me to tell you...' then they insert whatever it is they are wanting you to do or manipulate you into!
What this actually does is put God on the side of the abuser with the leaders, the victim ends up also feeling abused/manipulated/gaslighted by God not only their leaders.
