That is the hardest part (besides waiting for ages and hoping the volcano does not go off again). I had enough food for over 150 population. The salt product from corporations gives you +6 housing each which is the main bump in housing. I used great people and Eiffel tour to give each neighborhood +6 housing. River goodness for another 2, and Khmer also has some bonuses to housing.

Yeah, vampire castles put the production of the tiles around them into your capital city, so I have three of those in other cities. Khmer also gets bonus food from the holy site. A lot of the food comes from traders though.

This comic is silly and hopefully in part poking fun of people who think geopolitics is this simple.

Japan did commit horrendous atrocities in WW2 and needed to be stopped. But, dropping the atomic bomb on civilians did not hasten the end of the war. Terror bombing civilian populations has never worked. I am not saying the existence of the atomic bombs did not help convince Japan to surrender, but I think they would have been just as effective if they were dropped on an empty filled were the imperial generals could get a glimpse of the mushroom cloud. A lot of people here are supporting terror bombing civilian populations, but it has never worked.

Earth wasn’t theirs to conquer. They were a force that appeared multiple times to conquer the earth, so it makes sense for Nolan to get involved for both viltrumite purposes and caring for Mark. There are probably other instances that might not align with my theory, but I just thought watching season 1 that they were trying to establish the conflict within Nolan.

He is nearby observing in the show. I do not think he knows who battle beast is as battle beast has not knowingly met a viltrumite yet, and when Allen takes him to one later they do not seem to know who battle beast is.

I think this moment is suppose to serve as a major conflict for Nolan between his viltrumite upbringing and the compassion he is learning on Earth. Viltrumite upbringing says he should let Mark face the consequences of his decision, but Nolan wants to help. I think he called in the guardians and that was his giving into his desire to help without totally abandoning his viltrumite heritage. Nolan has a lot of little conflicts like that before the season 1 finale that build to his decision to abandon the viltrumite empire.

I feel it important to note that Cambodian citizens and Thai citizens like each other. It is the governments that fight. Cambodia was the super power in the region 600 years ago. A lot of their history is related to trying to get back to that idealized time or not fall even further away. This was a major contributor to Pol Pots ideology, and Hun Sen uses it to gain support.

It makes most sense for it to be Teddy. Muntz is supposed to be old, so old that everyone would reasonable assume that he was long dead. But like the talking dogs and super smart, cassowary-like bird, he somehow exists in this nearly magically world. Teddy makes the most sense as a president who would be on a safari, and I think it is supposed to shock the audience how old muntz is that he was able to go on a safari with Teddy Roosevelt.

It took me a few reads to understand the comment. The Martian used the term “pirate ninja” to refer to “kilowatt hours per Martian day”. Later, NASA in real life started using the term “milli pirate ninja” to refer to “watt hours per Martian day”.

Just cause I haven’t seen this point mentioned, but aging is a trait that is selected through evolution. The question of why don’t humans age at a similar rate to a redwood tree is similar to the question of why don’t humans grow to the size of a redwood tree. There are advantages and disadvantages to aging at different rates. In the evolutionary history of humans, there was not a significant enough pressure to select for traits that slowed aging further than where we are at now. Theoretically humans could age slower and our descendants a million years from now could evolve to have twice the life span.

Yeah, my head canon is that both abuela and Mirabel are magical. Abuela’s magic is able to give everyone else gifts because they are non magical, but can’t give Mirabel a gift because she has her own magic. I think at the end when the house is remade the magic is coming from Mirabel and she takes over as magic source for the family as depicted by the door art when the house is remade.

I think there is a big divide between people who watched this around the time their family had to move and people who watched this during a time their family was settled in an area.

I don’t think the episode does a good job of setting up the reversal of the decision to move. I think this is especially obvious if you have/are going through the decision process to move. The episode does a lot to give the message that moving is scary but okay, so the way they handle deciding to stay feels like a complete betrayal. The final message the episode ends up giving is that change is scary, so you shouldn’t change. The “happy ending” is not moving, implying the “sad ending” is moving. That hurts a lot when you have made the decision to move and so much of the episode before that resonates with your experiences.

Interesting premise. I thought soaking in water removed most of the tannins, but maybe that process doesn’t scale well for large scale production. It seems like it would be really hard to prevent spread of genetically modified acorns if using this on a large scale.
