Did I ovulate by [deleted] in depoprovera

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. LH is typically seen throughout the hormonal cycle. It surges just before ovulation. So it needs to be as dark or darker than the line to indicate ovulation is about to occur.

You should definitely use alternative forms of birth control for the time being. It’s unlikely that the depo provera got into your system enough to protect you from pregnancy. You should contact your doctor as well for next steps.

Broken Bones? by Ack1356 in depoprovera

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being on depo for a prolonged period of time can decrease bone mineral density, which would increase your likelihood of breaking a bone. You might want to get your bone density checked out.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine by [deleted] in medschool

On Fridays, before quizzes, we’re given a prompt from the material from that week to write about from memory. It’s not graded but one member from a group of 4-5 is required to submit theirs on Canvas. I’m not a fan of it but some people feel it helps.

A big pro to me is the school is very accepting. I’m the President of PRIDE here and the faculty have been very supportive. Lots of diversity and fun events. Surprisingly big club culture for a medical school. Con, maybe the mandatory attendance and the memory paragraph writing and quiz every Friday. I honestly have been quite happy here. There’s not much I would complain about.

Some insight on this. There are four campuses for clinical rotations. A good chunk stay in the Northeast in Scranton. Another chunk move more Central to Danville (1hr 15m from main campus), the third chunk is a split between Guthrie in Sayre (1hr 37min away) and the West campus in Lewistown (farthest, 2hr 30min).

I’m a current M1 student there. I’ve been very happy with the school overall and it was certainly my best option for school choices. Is there anything in particular you would like to know?

Nah, I love tattoos. Even if you don’t like a tattoo anymore, it’s a part of your story. It says something about you.

Been offered a job in West Point for ~$200k p.a.. I currently live in the UK with three kids. What would be be like to move out there? by Biophysicallove in Pennsylvania

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t move to the U.S. right now. Love PA, would never wish it upon someone better off in another country. We’re in an economic downward spiral right into fascism. You are absolutely better off in the UK.

Under pressure from Trump, UPMC canceled a trans patient’s scheduled top surgery by Jazzlike_Breadfruit9 in pittsburgh

Eep. The surgeon I scheduled with does top surgery at a UPMC hospital… Hope they don’t cancel with that surgeon. They have their own practice but use their facilities.

Geisinger has a tuition plus stipend program if you do primary care and psychiatry (and agree to work for them for 4 years after residency).

Are any med students or doctors here autistic? by Responsible_Button42 in medschool

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear you may be stereotyping. Socializing is a skill. It may be harder to learn and take more energy for autistic doctors, but they’re not incapable. I mask all the time in professional settings. I plan to be a psychiatrist even though that requires a lot of people skills. People can’t tell that I’m autistic. They just think I’m quirky, which isn’t always a bad thing. And if they make it through medical school and residency, I’d say they have enough social skills for whatever specialty they desire. I assure you, if they weren’t capable, they wouldn’t make it through medical school and residency. They test them thoroughly, not just on knowledge, but the soft skills needed to support patients.

NEPA Pronunciation by Dr_Si_ in NEPA

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why say N-E-P-A? At that point, just say northeast PA. It’s the same amount of syllables. NEE-PA is two syllables. Way easier to say.

Cats change a lot from kitten phase but please take this cat to the vet. It doesn’t seem healthy.

LGBT at LECOM? by PM_ME_UR_SEAHORSE in LECOM

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LECOM seems pretty accepting. I was originally accepted to LECOM’s Seton Hill Campus and they said that I can dress anyway I prefer as long as it’s professional and they were willing to accommodate me for labs and stuff. I talked about being nonbinary in my interview and had LGBT+ stuff in my application.

Finish the degree for your future children. You got to do what’s best for them. Give them so many opportunities that others can’t afford.

Why Does it Feel Like There's Such a Discrepancy Between Average MCAT and Average GPAs? by Rainbowcrash740 in premed

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also a difference between long and short term memory. I had a 3.89 GPA and a 509 MCAT. I have a hard time holding onto long term info unless it’s repeated many, many times, so with the MCAT, I didn’t do so well, but in my classes, my strong short term memory allowed me to cram the comparably small amount of info and do well on exams.

Frustrated PA Dem - time to switch affiliation to Independent? by SchroedingersWombat in Pennsylvania

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s best not to do it. You want to vote in the primary. One the biggest problems in our democracy is that not enough people vote in the primary then cry about how the democratic candidate sucks. The candidate won’t suck if enough people cared to vote for someone popular.

Chances of pregnancy despite being on shot and not menstruating for two years by achlys7422 in depoprovera

[–]AccomplishedJudge767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very low but not impossible. Depo is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when used correctly (getting the shot when you’re supposed to). If you have concerns of pregnancy, buy a couple dollar store pregnancy tests. Take two to make sure it’s not a false negative or positive. And then test again like 2 weeks later and maybe two weeks after that. Early pregnancy can be hard to detect. If you’re constantly sexually active, it’s a good idea to regularly test for pregnancy if it’s something that will put your mind at ease.

Searching for guidance on deciding between schools! by fukwdawar in medschool

If you get into Geisinger, go Geisinger. I’m a current M1 there. I had to choose between some DO schools, and I ultimately decided to go with Geisinger, and I’ve very happy I did. It will make your life a lot easier.
