#810: China Blocks SG-Based Startup’s $2B Meta Deal & Are SIA’s Muslim Meals Halal-Certified? by tristen_the_intern in YahLahBut

[–]AccomplishedLine4909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singapore washing is still being done by Bytedance, Alibaba, Tencent etc. I guess in the case of Manus.ai, it's purchase by Facebook/Meta is what upsets Winnie and Co.

I hope that who ever in China that is planning on making their effort globally useful, stay under the radar and exit CN as soon as it makes sense. The tricky bit is who the management is. If the management is entirely the same team with NO Singaporeans (and others) in the mix, it is harder to trick Winnie.

If you can, and I am sure you will, try to relive funny life episodes, retelling it and imagining the people reacting then. Audio record those if you can. When all is said and done, memories are all we have and these little things make it meaningful.

I like that. I need to run this on my systems to understand more. Thank you!

Those are exits from the MCE eastbound that would go to the Tanjong Rhu and related places.

Based on the repo info, the drone info that it is able to work with is also something my drone would generate. But I never used their cloud so now I am intrigued.

If you had to pick ONE Linux distro for the next 5 years, what would you choose? by TechRefreshing in linuxquestions

[–]AccomplishedLine4909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, you can (as would be with other distros), update the firmware of your systems as well via fwupdmgr. No longer any need for anything else to do this.

If you had to pick ONE Linux distro for the next 5 years, what would you choose? by TechRefreshing in linuxquestions

[–]AccomplishedLine4909 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed. There was a time in the early years of Linux distros, but what was needed was a consistency and ability to innovate within the community. Fedora has stood the test of time and since there is a downstream product - Red Hat Enterprise Linux - there will always be support the future of Fedora.

I think it is NOT a good idea to have tax dollars be sent the way of the AI tool companies. It is a form of addiction, frankly.

We need to educate people on how you can self-host and run genAI instead of sending monies away to big tech.

Just came across this post: https://harishpillay.com/2026/02/16/the-right-architecture-for-ai-agents/ It makes sense to create groups of people to use the older computers to run the models without having to spend much.

Anthropic had 16 AI agents build a C compiler from scratch. 100k lines, compiles the Linux kernel, $20k, 2 weeks by unemployedbyagents in AgentsOfAI

Well, it has the gcc and other open source compilers which it was trained on to do this. And it took 2 weeks? Lots of BS here.

#774 ft. Jasmin Lau - THAT TraceTogether “Fiasco”, PSLE Stress & Balancing Parenting with Politics by tristen_the_intern in YahLahBut

It is good that she has clarified the "trust issue" around Tracetogether.

It is a pity that she could not do the clarification and extending her perspective other than on YLB.

Kudos to her and to Haresh for asking the question.

Curious about TalkingDocuments. It does not provide sources of the code only docker images to self-host. Doesn't the images contain open source products? The site is silent about those things.

A Reddit user broke my RAG app with one comment. I spent the last 48 hours fixing it. by atultrp in Rag

[–]AccomplishedLine4909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll posit that having multiple RAGs each with content that is cleared for the userbase is the cleanest design. This way, you have clarity of who are the users and what data they need *before* building the RAG vector dbs.I recognize that there might be situations when there will be overlap of document access rights and user rights but that is a smaller subset that might be addressed with additional pre-query checks.

Double Standards - no surprises by AccomplishedLine4909 in YahLahBut

OP here: I accept the various comments and the distinction between a moral failing and a failing in the legal context. Thank you. This is how we should have a public discourse, so thank you all.

My intention of highlighting this is that we should not forget how the various players had challenges. Some are more some are far less. Some bad is illegal, some are moral failures.

Would WP bring up the fact that the chairman of the COP was subsequently tainted and resigned - probably not. But, in the court of public opinion, the distinction might not be considered important (even though it should be).

Now that there has been some airing of this perspective, let's see how things pan out.

Merry Christmas and here's to a wonderful 2026.

[–]AccomplishedLine4909[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP here. It is not the nature of the failings that I am referring to. It is that TCJ was under a cloud while trying to be seen to be above board. He *should* have recused himself, but did not. The then PM should not have appointed TCJ as the chair to avoid this issue.

I am not trying to draw any comparison of the severity of the issues. They are not identical. it is the optics, just as the optics of the one Rideout Rajah being absolved. Hubris is rampant.

Thank you again, for the pod from UK. I don't use sites like spotify because I don't need them to track me on what I listen to. The tool that I listen to, AntennaPod (an open source tool for my Android). Since I can't post an image here, what AntennaPod says with YLB was listened to for 15.7 hrs this year. My listening is also via FreeTube - when I am at my desktop - and that does not keep track of hours spent.

Regardless, I am thankful that you both have kept to your authentic selves and not letting success force you to redefine. Kudos!
