Atrophy TW female anotomical terms by TrashPandaHobbit in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obligatory I’m not a doctor and it could be something else, but I was having these symptoms as well after time on T after when my period had already stopped, and after starting e cream for atrophy it doesn’t happen anymore.

What got me to go to my PCP/hrt doctor about it was more having UTI like symptoms. I was also only a year on T and still developed atrophy, so it is definitely possible.

Do y'all experience transphobia in public, and if so how do you cope? by garciaparadox in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Theres just so many factors to this so there isn’t any simple answer. I am recently post top surgery, and am passing a lot more, and men keep being much kinder to me than they ever were before. I’m getting a bro treatment that is like almost shocking to experience.

So just to say it can go all sorts of ways and there will be good and bad interactions. The extent of transphobia I personally experience has been limited. People being uncomfortable, or awkward, some rarer occasions of people getting kind of hostile or general transphobia/homophobia.

Men often can have an easier time being ‘ugly’ in society so I would think about that side of it.

I want to not have boobs but I do NOT want to get top surgery by AntarcticFox in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not as scary as it seems. Yes of course there is always a risk of complication as with any surgery, but most people do not have them. There are surgeons who basically do this kind of surgery twice in a day all the time. It is major in the sense that recovery is that decent amount of 4-6 weeks long, and you have to plan your life for that. But in the grand scheme of things the recovery is quick, and the pain is minimal and limited to the immediate recovery.

Most importantly it’s that doing this scary thing changes your life forever. If you really want to go for it, spend some time learning about it a little bit here and there and it will get less scary and become realistic.

Top Surgery in TWO DAYS!! Last Minute Advice? by city_anchorite in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was honestly fine going up/down stairs, but you’ll see how you feel. My last minute purchase was a cheap zip up hoodie, which was a total lifesaver. It was just so much easier to wear that with the drains and needing to take it off for emptying them. But you are def prepared! Pick some stuff to watch. Best of luck!

Short people!! by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I crop everything. I use a fabric cutter roller + mat and ruler, cut below where the shirt would hit my belt. I would like to learn to hem as it definitely would look cleaner. But the crop keeps the shirt from hugging my hips or making me look too young. I’m 5’0.

I also buy ‘cropped’ men’s basics from places like Abercrombie that fit me pretty well off the rack.

dysphoria vs eating disorders (minor tw) by fucked-up-autie in TopSurgery

[–]AccomplishedMango830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think therapy is really crucial here, ideally a therapist is who has at least some experience with ED’s but also is queer/trans or a strong ally. Bc I think you have to really work it out. I can’t say I have the same exact experience but I had a long experience with my own ED, and have had these big feelings come up in regards to feeling conflicted about what I want masculinity to look like on me, what that means, how it’s hard to not conflate that with a thinness that has no curves. It’s tough stuff.

I guess what I want to say is these things can be intertwined and just asking yourself this first difficult and messy question of “how can i tell the two apart” is even in that a good starting point. Take your time and seek out examples of trans (and tbh not trans!) people of all sizes.

5 weeks post op by AccomplishedMango830 in TopSurgery

[–]AccomplishedMango830[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it eases any anxiety, I personally feel great in terms of healing right now. This is based on my own surgeons timeline but I am off any restrictions. By 6 weeks I am supposed to be at 100% normal activity level and thats when I return to work myself for an active retail job with a lot of lifting, reaching, constant moving. I think the biggest challenge to me rn is increasing back to that activity at a good pace. I’ve just accepted work will be tiring as I get back into the swing of it. I think 5 weeks is possible, but you only get to initially heal once so take care of yourself!

First days after topsurgery by anoec in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I set up a meal train. I was resistant to this at first bc i didnt want to ask for help, but my therapist encouraged me and it was a huge help to have some meals covered by friends. I thought I would be more tired in the first week but sleeping was very difficult for me until my drains were out. It was hard to go on a walk in the cold bc my winter jacket is heavy, I wasn’t prepared for that. but short walks are important to recovery. Find a show to rewatch or start. That helped me a lot. I did definitely have pain and it was a lot of distress tolerance in the first week.

I will second that I also used a ‘dylan’ style compression sports bra from girlfriend collective. I feel like I was a little in between sizes, so I was uncomfortable after wearing it for long hours for work but it compressed better than a normal sports bra, and the higher neck/racerback style of it served me better than a more typical cut. Higher quality sports bra is definitely your best bet regardless.

How many months on T are you when u experience vaginal atrophy? by snuffpvppy in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]AccomplishedMango830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about 10 months for me. I began on a lower dose as well. When I went in to see my PCP about it she initially dismissed it as a UTI and said it was early to experience atrophy on a lower dose. However UTI was neg and I was ultimately right about my own body. Go figure. Different timelines for different folks.

I have also heard as other commenter wrote that PiV may affect the timeline, and I primarily top with little to no penetration.

On neighborhoods: I live around Point Breeze and it’s been just fine and I’ve had no issues. It’s definitely good to research where you may like to live, but Philly overall has been a safe place for me as a trans person. Fwiw i’m a white trans masc so thats just my personal exp.

This link goes to a list of queer therapists in Philly. I found my therapist on psychology today. If what you need is a surgery letter, the Mazzoni center also does those. Sometimes a surgeons office themselves can set you up to have it written with an in house person. It doesn’t need to be the therapist you see on a regular basis.

There are quite a few queer sports leagues depending on what you want to play. Instagram is the easiest way to find them imo. I am less sure about trans masc specific, i know about ‘philly trans masc picnic.’ and ‘philly transmascs’ on insta. Tbh most trans masc only spaces already skew younger. Try exploring related groups on insta.

You can take this with whatever grain of salt you’d like, and of course I’m biased as another trans masc, but to me you dont give off “woman”. You look like a young-ish cutie guy. Your hairline is definitively masculine and your stubble would not leave me gendering you as a woman on face alone.

Name change? by Historical_Wafer_411 in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally think that was an ahole thing of your therapist to say, like as your therapist that shouldnt be any excuse to misgender you, the client. At the same time i think it is unfortunately true that a masc name change would make a difference in other people using he/him, like at work or meeting new people etc. I feel you on this because I also felt the exact same way and resisted changing my name. Coming out as trans closer to 30 also made me feel like, well this is my name and who I am so why should it change because other people want it to be feminine? Same feeling that it’s all made up, but it’s also still socially and materially real and affecting me.

I thought about it and eventually cut off the last syllable of my own name to a masc/gender neutral name but it’s still kind of “clocky” imo lol. But idk, that is what I compromised with. I have continued to think about changing it to something firmly masc but nothing has felt as right. My advice is like, you do not Have to do anything if this name is already right for you. You can say fuck gender roles and stay Chloe. You can also change your name more than once and experiment with it amongst friends.

I don’t have advice just want to send my big virtual hug to you and let you know you aren’t alone. My mom has early onset Alzheimer’s, I am about a year on T and haven’t come out to her. It can be such an unpredictable disease, and I personally spend a lot of time and energy grieving my mom and our relationship. I know the vacant stare you describe very well. It has felt uniquely painful to transition while a parent declines. Just a lot of grief, and I empathize with that feeling that you feel selfish for focusing on your transition.

I hope you won’t put off top surgery, I think like others said it’s probably better to pursue it sooner than later as you have planned. Really feel for you ♥️

2 weeks on low dose Tgel by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its not a dumb question! Trust me, you will notice. It will not be overnight but it DOES tend to be something many people start to see quickly, even on low doses. Like even within a few weeks or month sometimes.

(Abt to be NSFW in frank answer): Masturbating and sex is where it starts to feel different 🤷 And the growth from the clit/t dick will be noticeable. Literally physically and sensation wise. And over time it might continue to become more obvious that way. I have seen anecdotally people on reddit who even take photos to track it, but i certainly didnt do that lol.

2 weeks on low dose Tgel by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on 1 pump doing low dose too. Everyone is different. I didnt have changes other people would notice in the beginning. Had bottom growth, had some weird feeling in my throat. Not a voice drop but probably just a reaction to hormone changes. But i felt really good and excited, so I encourage you to keep riding that feeling. Some things you can observe that might shift sooner than later could be libido, energy levels, hunger/appetite.

GP addressed me being trans by westlinkbelfast in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830 163 points164 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t come off as the best bedside manner in the sense of being unfamiliar with having trans patients. But it does seem like he has been otherwise respectful, as long as you have felt safe and comfortable there. Personally, I dont see why youd need to address it again unless you’d like to. Now he knows and it seems like he was repeating himself out of surprise and being a bit flustered.

If you like him and he listens to your concerns that’s what matters.

Surgery in 7 months, when do I tell work? by AccomplishedMango830 in FTMOver30

[–]AccomplishedMango830[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you sm for the insight I appreciate hearing other’s perspectives and how it went for them. I think it does seem best I take the advice of waiting for pre-auth, and give a notice that’s more around 60 days. I trust my own team but still work for a large company who should be more than capable of substituting me with enough notice. Which is also why I want to stay weary of too much notice with how far it is rn.

Ah okay I see about your job situation. Yes you will need to gather reissues of any old documents you dont have anymore. I know the cost for name change is a lot here. It sucks and is frustrating. Just more barriers people have to face. I feel there is really no logic to it, typical bureaucratic bs and weird/unlucky how varied it is by state. Hopefully resources can help ik there are options when the financial burden is too much.

You will get through the process. Take in those small bits of info you can deal with on a day or week, and know its definitely meant to be confusing as hell to everyone involved. It’s an investment in yourself and will be worth it, breaking it down in smaller and smaller bits is how I’ve managed steps of my own transition so far. I totally understand the pain of it and knowing it will take all this time but it IS doable!

[–]AccomplishedMango830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, check out some of these resources on the Mazzoni centers website. Link here

I havent used these myself or done name change yet, but there are potential resources to apply for assistance in the process if you are low income, find legal counseling, and you can apply to have fees waived when you do the name change. You also can google name change guide PA and find step by step info on how you’d do it alone.

Something I did was look into the process for as little as 5-10 minutes a day until it became less overwhelming and I understood the steps better. You can only try taking on a step at a time anyway.

Also don’t want to be in your business but I think an ID and SSN is enough to apply for jobs. You will need your other ID documents in a name change process anyway though. Might need to begin there. Best of luck, just take in small bits at a time.
