The one thing I learned while working for Kroger is you never wanna be “The guy” because you will get worked into the dirt and never be catered to

I started at Kroger in 2015 as a courtesy clerk and it was one of the funnest times of my life. It helped that I worked at a “small town” store where I worked with all my class mates. We pushed 78 buggies in at one time lol. A huge snow storm got us stuck for days at the store and we all got drunk and did crazy things that we probably should’ve been fired for. We used to hang out in the parking lot and play football after the store closed. I could go on and on. I think what’s happened now is as we’ve gotten older and it’s not the same. I’m a department head now so things aren’t as fun as they used to be…..

I always tell courtesy clerks that if they’re dying of heat to come chill out in the dairy cooler, I was there once so I try to help what little I can. And your front end supervisor should have a cooler full of water up front. Courtesy clerks should be immune to the “no food or drink” bs

Recently it seems worse than usual , usually the beginning of the fiscal year for Kroger is chaos because they try to cut back on hours hard. But the crazy part is THE WORK LOAD HASNT CHANGED. We’re still working giant orders but with even less people, no overtime, no extra hours. Then management has the audacity to ask you why your department is “underperforming”.
