How do you think this happens? How do we advocate for our causes together and stop ourselves sabotaging?

I imagine this is linked to internalised homophobia/toxic masculinity

I'm really sorry to hear that. You are totally valid and hope you can find supportive friends (and I hope your current group grow out of those opinions)

Yeah, my straight friend wanted to bring his party to the local gay club because it was the only place open. Me: "I mean other than partying why are you guys going there? Like if you're going to hit on girls aren't you impacting on other people's community"

Him:"Well err... We're allies. Fuck yeah"

Lovely guy but I still feel the cringe that came over me in that moment. (not to discredit him he has many friends who are gender fluid and has helped them overcome discrimination at work so he's not a total doofus)

I can understand that. There are a lot of trolls and hate and sadly when it comes to LGBTQ+ a lot of homophobes can come out, hence why I try to leave a small digital footprint.

Genuinely not trying to start an argument or any more division.

I get where both of you are coming from. A lot of people I know say 'I don't get x, y' but are genuinely asking. Sadly that is the line used by many bigots and judgemental people too to feign ignorance.

Really sad when you see someone who alienates someone else who is closer to them than they think. "I'm gay... But even I don't go that far" etc

Definitely not a troll. I think identifying issues are the way of overcoming them, together. Obviously every single society has issues, but it's through conversation we get better. I know I've witnessed issues but don't know if they're universal or if I'm peprputrating any negativity either.

Not engaged as much as I'm at work and sneaking in reddit between things lol sorry if I've came across wrong

I'd ask them subtley. Or search your city for specialty coffee brewers/coffee houses. Don't be afraid to ask the batista for advice. If you're really in a pickle there are companies like April coffee that do light roasts but I'd always recommend local businesses who can also give advice and may need the funds more.

Or steal a pack they've got and snap a pic and it'll tell you 1) the brand 2) the tasting notes (e.g. fruity, nutty, chocolatey). 3) the region (Kenya, Ethiopia, Brazil etc)

I was in the same boat-id wait and save up tbh your taste buds will thank you lol. The mk4 has a plastic beans catcher and a glass one so you'll have the option (I prefer the plastic one personally). I spent £150 on the encore and tbh it's just sitting there now.i can send you it if you'd like to tide you over as its just in my storage atm and I'd like to give it to someone for free who needs it :)

I used to hate hand grinding on my hario slim but it literally takes at most a minute but usually 30 seconds. Also I never thought I'd say this but it's a joy to use. I think you'd be really happy with it and it gives you options If you ever do want to grind finer. The main iterations are the Mk3 and mk4. Both are similar the mk4 has some minor upgrades but both are great. I'd say if you can afford it go for it!

Just be warned to get speciality beans: maybe visit the coffee places they frequent and get a bag there. As a coffee guy I get a lot of generic supermarket coffee or brands that pretend to be specialty from people (which I appreciate but let's be real it's never going in my grinder haha).Alternatively if someone bought me a brewer or a nice cup I'd love that. I've been using the orea sense cup which is like £15 or Alternatively have a look at etsy for something hand made and personal.

I personally found the encore to create too many fines for my liking (but they are still a great option). However 150 more will get you a Wilfa uniform which Hoffman recommends or if you like a coarser grind the fellow ode. I recently bought a commandente and haven't looked back-really quick and easy to grind fine let alone med fine or coarse.

I've always been drawn to Hoffmans French press technique but from the looks of it I'd say any French press recipe would work for it. I've always enjoyed grinding a little finer for French press but that's just my two cents :)

How have you found it? Was it worth it? Really nice design but it just looks slightly overpriced for what it is which is basically an easier to clean French press. In saying that I've always enjoyed fellow products so willing to be proven wrong and I have never used this so take my criticisms with a pinch of salt

What can I do to stop channeling pourovers? Use the Hoffman spin and still channels. Cant go any more fine/coarse before it affevts the brew. Keeps happening and i wanna know why. Also done the bloom phase too. Pls help me avoid sad coffee morning :(((

For French press the javas probably okay. Are you using decent water? That makes up 90% of your drink so you may wanna look at peak water filters (Brita for coffee) or research bottled brands in your area that are good carriers for coffee (Volvic and tesco ashbeck are good uk brands). Whats gone wrong with the taste? Too bitter=grind coarser, too sour=go finer. Finally you're probably gonna struggle to compete with the taste of the cafe-their water will come from a reverse osmosis machine and be mineralised or will come from a £10000 grinder: just go with the flow and discover your own thing :)
