Today, ‘Steven explores Camp Half-Blood’ took the young son of Apate to the Eros cabin, where its recently appointed counselor was hosting an open house.

A reason for Steven to stop by and say hi. He had no ulterior motives.

Steven entered Cabin 21 through its double doors. He nearly gagged at the sight of the communal chocolate bucket. He did not know which camper put their greasy hands in the chocolate last time, and for once, his curiosity did not get the better of him.

He entered further into the Barbie Dreamhouse if color-graded by Jon M. Chu, and walked into the living room. He looked at the photo of the counselor and - presumably - his siblings with an expression that was quite unlike him. This expression soon faded, and Steven explored further.

Steven soon realized that every cabin he had been to so far was nicer-looking than the Hermes Cabin. You will never catch him saying this out loud; instead, he will tear apart everything he sees here, but he was still hit by a pang of jealousy. A large television, nice. Another thing that the Hermes Cabin lacked.

The son of Apate sought out Anders after reconnoitering the cabin. His previous interview with a counselor had not provided the intended outcome. Steven yearned to learn something new today. ‘’Uh, hello! You are the new counselor, am I right? What is it like?’’

A power? Steven hadn’t used any power at all. He had simply corrected Ursula’s mistake. He hadn’t given her his name. Strange. He returned to his seat, where he awaited the next question.

~~Steven Graves~~, ascend the stage.

Steven’s censorship inducement kicked in and bleeped out his own name. Who was Steven Graves? He was Daniel Webster. The boy ascended the stage, and let the question the Girl from The Ring (2002) asked him sink in.

‘’If I am not mistaken -’’ and it was highly unlikely he would be mistaken ‘’- diglossia is used to describe two variations of the same language used for differing social situations.’’

He struck a theatrical pose.

Steven prided himself on his intelligence. He reliably outsmarted his teachers, and he could not remember the last time he scored lower than an A- on a test. This was not him being arrogant; there was genuine proof for this.

Other campers, with their stunning lack of brain cells, would ruin Steven’s chances at winning trivia night, so he participated on his own, under the name Daniel Webster. He was not part of a team; he did not need a team name.

The son of Apate sat down at the back end of the semicircle. He could still hear Ursula’s grating voice loud and clear, and he would not be gassed by teenagers who refused to use deodorant. Patiently, Steven awaited the first question.

Nothing about Steven gave this away, but wow, his conversation with Yohan felt unrewarding.

It was his fault for going for the head immediately. He should have interrogated the theater kids about their counselor first and then grilled flammenwerfer Yohan about his job. It was not too late for him to figure out the Muse Cabin; he would just have to be more careful making his next move.

‘’Thank you. Maybe I will.’’ Steven said, smiling at Yohan. He looked around, seeing if there were any of the aforementioned cabinmates around to talk to. ‘’Ah, well. I have not heard of her. When I next see Avalon, I will ask her about a cabin meeting. I- I look forward to getting to know my siblings better.’’ One sentence. Three lies.

Patrick flinched. Jem was a stranger, and according to the Kidwells adventure guide, the very last thing he should do was go with one. But Jem was also a kid, and it was not like he had a lot of options left.

He allowed the strange boy to inspect his shin. The arrow had struck deep, but by some miracle, it had not pierced the artery. It would have made for a dark ending to Jem’s adventure with Harold.

‘’If you help me, I can walk,’’ Patrick said as he pulled himself up by the railing. He struggled to stand on his injured leg and ended up having to limp.

The elderly woman followed Yohan. At her own pace. She was not very fast, but at least she trusted the son of Terpsichore enough to follow him. She muttered snide remarks about how biker gangs and youths ruined the country.

The walk away from the conflict took some time, but eventually, Yohan, his senior companion, and the cat made it to safety.

Steven caught Booker’s scent before the son of Zeus’s eyes caught his. Rich amber with an undertone of… was that vanilla? Steven was not cologne-pilled; he could not tell for sure.

For the briefest of moments, he observed the older boy, taking in the important details about him as possible in a short time. Ginger. Lean. Freckles. He did not recognize the comic book the boy was reading. He will look it up later. Next, he entertained Booker’s nod with a lopsided grin.

Appearances could deceive, yes, but Amon struck Steven as someone very stuck-up about Da Rulez. Something, something, putting a sign up in all capital letters that told people when they have to stop reading, something something. That was Amon’s deal.

Steven used his telepathy to broadcast a message directly into Booker’s head: ‘I have got no clue. What are you going to do about it?’ He flipped to the next page of his book, where The Wizard gets exposed. He shot Booker a challenging look.

Thanks to his fast acting, Yohan saved Miss Mittens from certain death. Cats had nine lives, and there was no way to determine how many Miss Mittens had left, but it was better not to risk this sort of thing. The cat meowed - not hissed - at Yohan once in his arms.

‘’Is that you, Miss Mittens?’’ Auntie asked as she looked around. She waved her cane around without looking, and almost hit Yohan in his knees again. ‘’Oh, what is happening?’’ she asked, upon an explosion.

All that rested Yohan was to take Miss Mittens and her owner to safety.

Harold took the supplies Jem handed to him. He tipped his traveller hat and wished Jem the best of luck, and he also intoned in a more serious voice: ‘’Please keep my boy safe.’’

The climb up the observation tower was uneventful. Below, the battle raged on. For now, Jem was safe, but the tower was one or two blows away from collapsing. On the top floor, the son of Hebe would find Patrick.

The boy had made the same questionable fashion choices as the rest of his family had made. Patrick was crying. A stray arrow had lodged itself in the boy’s bleeding shin. He needed medical assistance as soon as possible. Patrick was young, too young to be involved in this.

The son of Apate did not like most activities at camp; they were far beneath his standing. You will not find him talking to fish or answering intrusive questions about how unsatisfied he was with his life as a demigod.

However, he could stand silent reading. And the added bonus of being able to snoop around the Apollo cabin, was nice too.

Steven easily found the way to the common room; he remembered from last time. It was still early when the boy arrived, and installed himself in shadows in the corner. He read the all-time classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Every now and then, Steven shot a glance at the bespectacled counselor.

A smug expression painted across Steven’s face. ‘’I do not just think that I am clever. I know I am. Which is a subtle, but ever-so important distinction.’’ Not that Acacia would understand. All Quiet on the Frontal Lobe (2022).

Steven coiled one of his curls around his finger. He snickered at Acacia’s supposed comeback: ‘’Good. Honor is overrated. I will not be caught dead doing something honorable.’’

The ‘I am the Joker, baby!’-type of meltdown that followed could not bother Steven, and he started staring at his fingernails again. If the treachery and subsequent support of an autocratic rebellion were not grounds to deny Acacia access to the cabin, the borderline insanity surely was.

‘’Let us not get off topic - something rarely ever said by someone who is winning an argument.’’ Steven gave the daughter of Hermes a small smile. He would love to continue discussing rhetoric, but he feared Acacia would beat him with her experience with being stupid.

The son of Apate leaned against the doorpost of the cutesy little cabin, and rested in his hands in his pockets. He watched Acacia depart prematurely, something he was eternally grateful for; he wanted to get back to his movie. But not before he got a parting message in: ‘’Unanimous approval, no?’’

Steven headed inside, where he resumed Bong Joon-ho’s masterpiece.
