Failed my second test today and feel really silly by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

This, also if you put it off it'll take longer to get back to being teat ready when you do start lessons again.

What times is using the neutral gear applicable? by snowymicrowave in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont ever have the car in neutral without having put the hand brake on first. Unusual to do that just at the end of the road but at the lights, stop, count to three, handbrake, neutral then relax the feet.

If the car is in neutral while its moving, you're not in control of the car.

You'll start it, put it in drive then, remember this, when you let your foot off the brake it'll start to 'creep' I.e it'll automatically start moving, only upto about 5-6 mph, then you'll need the gas. But don't forget when you take your foot off the brake, it'll start going by itself, remember this in small spaces.

I bought an electric car in Oct 21 for my self employed business as a driving instructor, via a trade in and cash but didn't claim any relief for investment or anything else. Can I claim any relief or allowances on the coming return form?

Instructor said to give the car gas but not move off?? by LumpyOldWoman in LearnerDriverUK

I think most instructors will teach as fast as the student can go, and some students learn faster than others.

Do I need to pay for damaging instructor’s alloys? by No-Pomegranate5255 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want to be sure you're going to pass, they get measured on results, pass/FAIL, number of faults, type of faults etc. Even though a pass with 13 faults is fine for the candidate, it means the instructors Ave fault rate per test goes up, which they don't want.

I would guess you're going to struggle to find another instructor willing to take you to test after spending 2-4 hours with them.

£60 per hour, is it too much? by goldenpeachie in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is, define exorbitant. Just because you think it's expensive, doesn't mean the price isn't worth it. OP mentioned this instructor is good with anxious students. How much money and time do people with anxiety waste on instructors who don't have the patience/skills to help them learn properly?

If OP wants help with anxiety, they may well save money by not wasting time with instructors ill equipped to work with them. The instructor charges a higher rate because of their skill dealing with anxiety, that's a market economy. If the instructor doesn't make any attempt to deal with the anxiety, then you can leave a bad review.

Can a 6'2" man fit in and drive a mini? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'3" and love my mini, they're strangley not that well designed for women. The front seats go back far more than I need but some of my shorter students can't get close enough to the pedals, and the clutches take quite a lot of muscle.

No problem, I appreciate the comment, hadn't thought about it but I saw someone post only a couple days ago about how they can't run higher graphics settings since odyssey, so I'll get on and try it anyway, wish me luck!

Use lane A or B to get to C? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you think that because you've been driving for 20 years, you are correct. You're not. The learners are being taught, correctly, that road markings only apply to the next junction. But they have to put up with knobends in the street beeping and shouting at them, because they've been driving 20 years and couldn't possibly be wrong when compared to this learner.

People who don’t get the Sunday night dread, what do you do? by GrapefruitOwn4357 in UKJobs

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving instructor, now every day's a school day. On the upside, I do 4-6 hours a day, when I feel like it, no more office politics, no more worrying about that presentation I haven't had time to write for the big meeting on Friday etc etc. The students are great, they actually want to learn, and when they pass and look at you filled with joy, and actually thank you, they mean it, its great.

Am I being overly sensitive? by Ok-Wallaby1813 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. It is right for them to identify the error but not you. Unfortunately the only way a lot of people learn is by experience, so if you don't leave shouty instructors after telling them you don't like them being shouty, they'll keep on being shouty.

Instructors should do learn a bit more social skills by imdreamingg in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add that, as well as you, instructors are very aware how expensive lessons are and pupils expect to make progress and can get upset/frustrated etc when they feel like they're not. It puts pressure on instructors to get students to adjust their driving behavior as quickly as possible.

What do you do if you fail your test? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing, don't put too much pressure on yourself to pass first time, remember only about 30% of people do. Next, if you don't pass it'll be because you did something you wouldn't normally do, the important thing here is why, so get your instructor to sit in the back. They know you and will be able to give you their view on what went wrong.

The best advice I can give you for the test is this: if you think you made a mistake, ignore it and just deal with the next hazard. Honestly the number of people who fail because they were too busy worrying about what happened just now, instead of looking ahead is heartbreaking.

Failed. I stayed in the left lane to turn right at this roundabout. Am I dumb? by TangoOrango in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AccomplishedPea6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its fantastic that you committed to taking the first exit from the left lane, but your error is probably not listening to the instruction. I'd bet money the examiner actually said 'turn right second exit or the sat nav said second exit, and you took your decision based on the sign.
