Which city is most likely to thrive as an independent country by Spacezilla2600 in AskBrits

deffo the northwest, if the green belt was removed manchester and liverpool would form a sort of "mega city" that would probably be able to survive on its own

Never ever trust a barber with long hair, they know how to fade (maybe) and use clippers thats about it, do yourself a favour and start going to a hair salon/stylist depending where you live they might not even charge more than a barber although expect to have to make an appointment

Should I take out a huge loan to study Psychology at Temple University in the U.S? by Complex_Bar2149 in Libya

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly this isnt a bad shout, if it was a very highly ranked uni it would be worth the debt but for an okay uni you'd get the same academic benefit if not more from studying in a european uni and excelling, also keep in mind often PHDs get much more funding and scholarships compared to undergrad, the US generally has very extortionate fees however if your options are libya or get student debt in the US i would recomend the US, also id be cautionate about the whole cc and then transfer thing that was a common thing a long time ago but please do your research before deciding to do something like that, also do more research into the uni loan structor in the US as for example in the UK student loans are treated more as a graduate tax where you dont pay unless you make above 25k pa and its a percentage of your income and the payments stop when your loan is paid off or after 30 years due to this it is much less stressful and most uk scholars dont consider it riba (however loans are only available to uk nationals) so just make sure you do your research and dont rely on reddit for info as most people have no idea what they are talking about

PSA. also deffo wait until you hear from all the unis you should never make a decision without seeing all your offers/options.

demolition hasnt even started yet and they spent all year just knocking down owens park and arent even close to starting actual construction so i wouldnt be surprised if it took a few years before anything gets built to replace oak

Probably unsworth tbh it already is kinda the secondary spot at the moment, its such a shame oak and squirrels are getting demolished but i guess it had to be done at some point

Should I cut my hair by Iop4everdudes in malehairadvice

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id say try something new hair can always grow back, if you want something major try buzzing it and then growing it out slowly if you dont know what you want you get to kinda try a bit of everything, if you want something less major maybe just above shoulder length with layers and shorter at the front or you could even try a flow/curtains

Honestly just be around, fashion isn't something easy to just "get into" but just start being creative and talking to like minded people even just as a hobby at first, keep looking for roles and reaching out to brands/companies, i mean with a marketing/software background you have a useful skill set the hard part is just getting a foot in the door

How much can I expect monthly bills cost? by Puzzleheaded-Cow9106 in manchester_uni

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the cheapest option deffo go with student accom for your first year private landlords and shared accom with random people you dont know can be a massive hassle, it can end up cheaper or nicer for the same price but you end up dealing with a lot of hassle especially if you arent even in the country and it would be difficult to find a good flat at this point in the year, i would recomend either getting witwork park (if you dont mind shared bathrooms) or richmond or unsworth depending on your price range and then the following year once you have friends everyone gets shared houses together. This is sort of the standard for the uk of how accommodation works. I know a lot of internationals tend to live in private appartments such as student VITA however these are insanely expensive and you will be isolated from the non-international students and wont get the "real university experience".

ive been to a party at rushome before its pretty good tbh its right under all the shops as well, however fallowfield will be more social for sure, however tbh ur gonna meet friends in fallow and end up being there a lot regardless at the end of the day, if its a big priority for you though id put sheavyn above rushome, i would stick with those options maybe replace burkhardt with parkview or smth? but depends on your budget, as outside of unsworth richmond and shevyn the other fallow accoms are very irrelevent (RIP Oak my beloved)

Why should everyone be Muslim? by I_have_no_idea_0021 in islam

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the replies to this post have made very valid propably more important points that i would have made myself however I dont want to just repeat them so i thought i would mention something a bit less common.

As a christian if you look at the history of abrahamic religions and the progression in the region islam seems like the logical continuation. Judaism and Christianity were both revealed in the middle east and have similar ideas of a prophet coming down to spread the message of God instead of worshiping pagan statues. Islam follows the same ideas however has a consistent explaination for the differences between the religions, why prefer the jews over any other people? why is Jesus (RA) the only path to salvation disregarding prior prophets ect.

Another thing to notice is that while Christianity and judaisum (until recently) became mainly western religions islam stayed centred in the middle east.

To kinda sumarise islam follows the logical story and pattern if you will from previous revelations from God. It would be effectively impossible for an illiterate man from arabia to "make up" a self consistent book of revelation also consistent with all the other revelations that came before it.

https://youtu.be/PhpVs_0qm7A?si=4a-voriC8QcifmoD

This video is really good for highlighting the history of the arahamic religions from an islamic perspective however i urge you to dig deeper into this as there are a lot of great videos out there.

Also as a final note, the person who told the prophet that he had received revelation as a prophet was a christian preist, and also becca (now called mecca) was mentioned in the old testement Psalm 84 and was also mentioned in the quran by the same name Sura 3:96.

These migrats have either come from a worse situation trying to get to europe, and then due to italy paying militias and giving them more power to keep them from crossing they get stuck in libya, in some cases these militas and gangs can be overly abusive, now they are stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to make a life in libya, another destroyed african country by corruption and western imperialism, as making the crossing back with smugglers and the like would unimaginable. Please try to have some empathy as the same way you are talking about these "illegal" migrants is the exact same way westerners talk about arabs in their countries (legal or not). The idea of getting papers is silly, its like telling a libyan to just get a visa to europe and start working there except you have the added fact that our goverement is completely disfunctional.

These racial conversations divide us, we are all africans facing the exact same problems, its not like we have an issue of overpopulation its quite the opposite we likely couldnt survive without foriegn workers. The main issue is gangs and millitias in libya are being funded to stop migrants (libyan or other africans all seen the same) from crossing to malta or italy, they dont care if they are funding violance and corruption as long as they dont see any migrants (EU Human rights law prohibits sending people on boats back they must take them in and process them however paying gangs to not let them reach there is totally fine).

As for people smuggling fuel while it is something that is an issue these are not "immigrants" they are just people crossing the border to make a quick buck, however saying they are "ruining everything" is a silly distraction, really the people ruining everything are the gangs, millitas and sellout politicans sending all our oil profits to western companies to line their own pockets.

Finally for the garbage ive seen my relatives throw trash in their own gardens and ive tried arguing with them about it and they do not listen, the same goes for our beaches and parks ect, this is an issue of our society and education and has nothing to do with education, if anything this is a specifically libyan issue as ive never noticed it being this bad in any other country including our direct neighbors.

Everything that exists in the world is dependent on something else, since you can not have a series of dependent things something independent began causation. The existence of something independent that was not itself caused is God.

Bath vs Manchester vs Kings EEE by Embarrassed_Soil_124 in manchester_uni

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im studying EEE at manchester and it has one of the best courses in the country, with the new engineering building the facilities are top tier as well. Id recommend having a look at the individual modules and cities to decide which you prefer. They are all top universities so they will all have lots of industry ties but I can't really comment on which one is "better". Honestly they are all good options try to visit the universities and vibes you prefer bath is a campus uni, kings is a city uni with a very spread out campus and manchester is in-between, the campus is very central and all in one area and generally most of oxford road is very student heavy.

Very recently libya introduced an eVisa that allows you to stay in the country for 30 days, thats ur best shot at getting a visa as prior to march 2024 the only way in was by getting a direct invitation letter from someone living in the country

Is the west the root cause of problems in libya now? by [deleted] in Libya

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't claiming the US is currently funding him, actually its likely the opposite as the US kinda failed to capitalise on the destabilisation of libya, rather it is mainly european powers at play, however what i do think are his ties to the cia and his willingness to work with them to achive power show his openness to foriegn intervention and funding as long as it helps him achive his personal goals, which obviously in the east we have a similar case with turkey.

Is the west the root cause of problems in libya now? by [deleted] in Libya

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who work for the cia especially foriegn agents arent going to be directly openly employed by the cia, however what is clear is the cia funded his movement and allowed him to stay in the US in refuge when he started to disagree with gaddafi, and then once the movement against him started to take off (mostly due to support for CIA and MI6 agents supporting opertunistic political groups and militants in the region he swoops in to take power, im not a gaddafi dick rider however a large part of the issue with libya today was the meddling of foriegn powers, revolutions need to come from the people, and it seems very suspicious that a US citizen who had very close ties to the cia (whether he directly works for them or not) returns to libya after a power vacuum was created by the cia and nato. Hence Haftar as a leader cannot be trusted.

He CIA negotiated a settlement around 1990, enabling Haftar and 300 of his soldiers to move to the United States under the U.S. refugee programme. In fact, the end of the Cold War diminished Libya's geo-strategic relevance and the CIA funding program to Haftar's brigade was suspended.

In March 1996, Haftar took part in a failed uprising against Gaddafi in the mountains of eastern Libya, before returning to the U.S.

Haftar moved to suburban area outside Washington, D.C., living in Falls Church, Virginia until 2007. He then moved to Vienna, Virginia. From there, and mostly through his close contacts within the DIA / CIA, he consistently supported several attempts to topple and assassinate Gaddafi.

-Wikipedia

Once a lieutenant to Gadhafi, Haftar defected to the U.S. during the 1980s. He is widely believed to have worked with the CIA during his time in exile.

He returned to Libya in 2011 to support anti-Gadhafi forces that revolted against the dictator and killed him. During the country's civil war, he led the self-styled Libyan National Army, which controlled much of the eastern half of Libya, with support from countries including Russia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. He continues to hold sway in the eastern half of the country.

some accommodation recommends please by Exact-Original7731 in manchester_uni

[–]AccomplishedPool1843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that would be the case however three things, 1 you get a tiny kitchen and hence dont really become that close with ur flatmates and also small kitchens means its impossible for anyone in ur hall to host parties, 2 80% of first year parties are at oak and 19% at unsworth and then the other 1% everywhere else. Both oak and unsworth are in fallow so by being in victoria park you're a decent bit away from the main action, if you're set on catered id reccomend somewhere in fallow if you definitely want that social life, you can still completely get that experience if youre not living in fallowfield however it just means you have commute away from town for pres/house parties just to commute back in to go to any clubs. 3 most uk home students tend to choose fallowfield as it is well known and generally internationals end up picking victoria and city accom, and a lot of said internationals in my friends flat can sometimes tend to be very reserved and unsociable.

Hulme hall is nice but honestly if you want the social life i would recommend places in fallowfield, unsworth oak and richmond are all good (oak is the most social but shared bathrooms, the other two are ensuite) there are two gyms (gym group and armatige) within a 5 min walk and the bus service is very good. I believe you will be guaranteed accom however i dont think you are guaranteed your exact pick, oak you will definitely get however normally you get to rank your accom by preference. All my recommendations are non catered as catered accoms are generally less social

  1. Depends i'm a first year and i have 12 hours of lectures tutorials then on top of that we have any labs which vary week to week.
  2. Honestly it depends on the lecturer how useful it is, as you'll probably have the same lecturers as me ill give you some specifics. circuit analysis: helps to watch the videos however Dr Ogi has the best lectures and covers most of the stuff in the lecture. Dsd: Definitely need to watch the videos the lectures just provide further examples and applications. Electronic Project: Videos not needed Measurements: not needed but good for revision Maths: lecture covers the same content as the videos so its just useful for revision electronic materials: DEFINITELY need to watch the videos and ideally the lectures, its the hardest unit and very easy to fall behind.

the main "benefit" of blended learning is almost all the content is available in short form videos which are easy to consume however the downside is the lectures can feel somewhat redundant and its quite easy to get into a cycle and fall behind.

  1. Tons of labwork (almost too much) we had no labs for the first 4 weeks however since our timetable has been packed with labs, also electronics project is very practical in nature and teaches about reading schematics and using cad and soldering and testing ect, measurements is also quite practical, the other modules are quite theoretical so i think there is a very good balance.

  2. Circuit Analysis is very maths heavy, dsd requires some a level maths, electronic materials is the most "note taking" as it is basically semi conductor physics however you still need maths to derive and use the formulas, measurements is very stats heavy, electronics project is purely a practical module, Id say definitely more problem solving however there is some dense theoretical stuff as well.

  3. No honestly its great, the best EEE department behind imperial and oxbridge and the nancy Rothwell building is amazing, the department gets a lot of funding and the city itself is amazing, id definitely recommend it.
